Since 2016 Relax Kids Belfast has helped 10,000+ children with proven mental health & wellbeing tools in schools, communities & 1-1 sessions No long waiting lists, just support that helps build calm, confidence & emotional resilience in young minds. Hi, I’m Sinead York, a qualified Relax Kids Coach since 2016 and since starting my journey, I’ve had the privilege of working with over 10,000 children from Belfast and beyond, helping them build confidence, emotional resilience, manage big emotional and find their inner calm. Through fun, engaging sessions, I offer practical tools and strategies that support children's mental health and well-being, basically skills they can carry with them for life. I’m passionate about empowering the next generation to understand and regulate their emotions, navigate challenges with resilience, and ultimately feel happier and more at ease in today’s busy world.

🌟My Story🌟
Believe it or not, my background was originally in TV, film, and broadcasting. But after having my two amazing daughters, I found the long hours and stress was taking it's toll on my mental health and I also hated missing out on precious moments I would never get back back. I desperately needed a positive change in my work life balance, so I searched for something that would improve both my family life and the lives of others. As my husband, who also worked at UTV, left and retrained as a hypnotherapist he was making real changes in people's mental health. Inspired by his journey and aware of the shocking statistic that 1 in 5 children in Northern Ireland suffers from a mental health condition, I knew where my heart lay. That’s when I found Relax Kids, trained as a coach, and started my own path in 2016 and I can say it's the best decision i've ever made. To find out all about the my services, the benefits of Relax Kids sessions plus who i've worked with, read on....

🌟Tailored 1-1 Sessions (Age 5-13)🌟
This is a huge and deeply rewarding part of my work. For over six years, I’ve been delivering personalised 1-1 sessions from my practice in Ballyhackamore, supporting hundreds of children and teens as they work through a wide range of emotional challenges. These sessions are specially designed to help with emotional regulation, confidence-building, resilience, anxiety, low self-esteem, anger management , exam stress , managing transitions and more. Each session is completely tailored to your child’s individual needs, and I love incorporating their unique interests and hobbies into our work whether that’s Harry Potter, Minecraft, football, unicorns, nature, or anything else that lights them up. Included in the sessions are practical emotional regulation tools such as belly breathing, positive affirmations, mindfulness, tailored visualisations, grounding techniques, EFT (tapping) and much more! I recommend doing at least 3 sessions lasting 50 minute each with a recap with a parent at the end, each child will take home lots of resources to support the sessions such as posters, handouts and items to help them practice their newly learned relaxation techniques. The sessions are run at my calming premises in Ballyhackamore which has private parking for you.

4th and final week of Relax Kids sessions with the P6’s sessions at Elmgrove Primary before starting with the P4’s and P5’s after half term. Today we focused on resilience and positive thinking. Look how chilled out they are!

I posted this last year before a storm. Thought if your child is off school tomorrow it might be useful.

🌧️💨Mindful Family Ideas for a Stormy Day 🌧️💨
With the arrival of Storm Floris today it’s a perfect to spend some mindful, calming time with your children.

1. Create a Calm Corner 🧘‍♀️
Set up/ or ask your child to make a cozy corner with blankets/ pillows/fairy lights/calming items like books or cuddly or sensory toys. Invite children to use it as a safe space to relax, breathe, and feel secure during the storm.

2. Mindful Breathing Exercise 🌬️
Guide children through simple breathing exercises. Try this one:

Breathe in for 4 seconds through their nose (imagine smelling a flower).
Hold for 4 seconds.
Breathe out through their mouth for 6 seconds (as if blowing out a candle).
Repeat this a few times to help calm their nerves.

3. Weather Watching Meditation 🌧️
Sit by the window and observe the storm together. Ask them to notice the sounds, the movement of the trees, or raindrops on the glass. Encourage them to describe what they see and hear—it can turn their attention to curiosity instead of worry.

4. Gratitude Jar Activity ✨
Grab a jar or a box, and ask everyone to write (or draw) things they’re grateful for on small pieces of paper. Decorate the jar together while chatting about positive moments from the day.

5. Story time with a Twist 📖
Choose a favourite story or create one together about a storm. Include a brave character who finds peace and calm despite the wind. Let the kids use their imagination to steer the story!

6. DIY Sensory Bottles 🌀
Make calming sensory bottles using water, glitter, and food colouring. Shake the bottle and watch the glitter settle as a visual way to practice patience and mindfulness. (There are lots of ideas on google for these jars)

7. Guided Relaxation for Kids 💤
Play a relaxation script or audio designed for children. You could even record your own! Use soothing words to guide them into imagining a safe, happy place like a sunny meadow or a magical forest. Check out my recorded visualisations on SoundCloud, link in the comments below.

8. Stormy Artwork 🎨
Create art inspired by the storm. Use crayons, paints, or markers to draw the wind, rain, or how the storm makes them feel. Creative expression can help release any pent-up or big emotions.

9. Build a Family Fort 🏕️
Transform the living room into a cozy fort with blankets and chairs, cuddle up to watch a feel-good movie or share stories.

10. Mindful Colouring 🎨
Print out or use colouring books with relaxing patterns like mandalas or nature scenes. Sit together and colour mindfully, focusing on the colours and the movement of the pencil or crayon. This activity can be very soothing for both children and adults.

11. Positive Affirmations Mirror 🪞
Write positive affirmations on sticky notes and stick them to a mirror or wall. Have children say them aloud, e.g., “I am brave,” “I am safe,” or “I am loved.”

12. Family Yoga Stretch Session 🧘
Practice gentle stretches or yoga poses as a family. Poses like “child’s pose” or “tree pose” can be calming and grounding.

13. Other ideas include jigsaws/boardgames/make a relaxing playlist/watch favourite funny movie!

If you can think of any other ideas, add them in the comments below.

💛 Hello P7 Superstars 💛
Today as you get your SEAG results you might feel happy or excited, disappointed ,worried or nervous.
And some might feel a bit of everything.

Whatever you’re feeling, take a moment and remember:
You are still YOU and that is enough.

A test can’t measure your heart, your bravery, your smile, your kindness, or your unique spark.
Your journey is yours, and your future is full of amazing possibilities.

To parents: your child doesn’t need you to “fix” it today, they just need to feel safe, loved and supported. I went through this with my daughter last year so I know how you are feeling. Now on to the next hurdle of picking schools. You are nearly there!

If your child is upset or disappointed about the outcome of today’s SEAG results here is a relaxing guided visualisation...

💛 Children’s Mental Health Week – “This is My Place” 💛
9th-15th Feb

This year’s theme reminds us how important it is for children and young people to feel like they belong at school, at home and in their community. When children know they have a place where they feel safe, included and understood, it can have a powerful impact on their confidence, wellbeing and mental health.

To support Children’s Mental Health Week, I’m available to deliver Relax Kids group sessions for schools, organisations and community groups, supporting children and teens aged 5–16.

Sessions help children and young people to:
✨ feel calmer and more settled
✨ manage worries and big feelings
✨ build confidence and resilience
✨ develop tools they can use every day

📩 If you’d like to book a session or find out more, please email relaxkidsbelfast@yahoo.com or call 07788 956562
