We're not really a "trendy" studio so rarely post anything that follows the very disposable trends we can see online. But we saw some of our friends post photos of their staff when younger and thought that it was actually, for once, quite a lovely thing to do!

So here is your Maitri Team in a great mix of ages, fashions and moods.
Can you guess who is who?

Have a great Paddy's Day if you celebrate, a great day nevertheless if you don't!

PS : Big kudos to the Chaturanga Dandasana master in the first slide 💕

Strength in Solidarity 👊
(Written by Claire)

I was uplifted by the positivity, resistance (to oppression) and openness (to change) of the recent International Women's Day march in Belfast, organised by Reclaim The Agenda (all power to their collective elbows) and with many other associations and community groups in attendance.

The wonderful Mary Robinson was there to remind us of the power and necessity of solidarity, joining our skills and talents, to provide solutions to the great challenges we face, from domestic violence and misogyny to facing down 'post-truth' lies and tackling climate change. She talked about the importance of combining our resources, as she's been doing through Project Dandelion, a women-led global campaign for climate justice. In the Irish project working on food sovereignty she and others recognise all the good work happening through the island and will build on those connections.

As she said "Truth is our relations with each other… we must flourish together."

It chimes very much with how we see things here at Maitri Studio. Geoff and I established Maitri Studio as a positive place for peacefulness, inclusive and for community - you can read an interview with us in the early days here. We feel after 12 years it has grown beyond us, and we're thrilled! In a childhood analogy, Maitri Studio is definitely not 'our baby' any more - she's grown up and is fledging the nest, with ideas of her own and contributed to by the many teachers, facilitators and counsellors who work at the studio.

Mary Robinson reminded us of Article 29 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - that with rights come responsibilities.

"Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of [their] personality is possible"

This reminds us that we don't only have a responsibility to act for our communities, but that it is an essential part of being human. As we all will have felt at some point in our lives, we receive so much when we give, and the act of giving and helping others makes us more whole, more fully who we really are.

We list trauma-informed yoga at Maitri Studio as one of our options. While there are currently no specific trauma-informed classes, several of our teachers are trauma-informed yoga trained, or have similar professional training.

Trauma-informed yoga - what is it? ✨

This approach is designed to help survivors of trauma and PTSD to experience yoga in safe space, reconnecting with sensation in the body and develop personal wellbeing. Teachers are aware of the potential impacts of psychological trauma and adjust their teaching methods accordingly, with invitational language, understanding each individual, ensuring safety and encouraging a return to being grounded and having the ability to make your own choices about your practice.

There are many ways to train in trauma-informed yoga, all with various levels of depth and experience. It is also possible that a teacher does not have an official 'trauma-informed' qualification but has many years of experience working with students through yoga or in other aspects of their work and can host a space safely.

We encourage anyone interested to take a look at the profile pages of the teachers below, and also to speak to any of us to find out more. It is important you find a teacher you are comfortable with.

All teachers are listed on our team page and there are others who do offer 1:1s (e.g. Claire Ferry, Orla Wallace, Lucie Chenet Rea) without specific trauma-informed training but if a teacher resonates with you, do not hesitate to contact them.

Kirtan at Maitri ✨
8th of March 2026 (monthly event)
7-8.45pm

🎹🎼

Come and experience the healing, centering and joyful effects of Kirtan chanting. Chanting is just another form of yoga to help us connect in a more loving peaceful way to ourselves and others using sound. Julie and Victor will lead you in a musical and vocal journey through sacred sounds and mantras, in the form of Kirtan (meaning ‘to sing’) - chanting via call and response.

If you're new to chanting, just love music or a good singalong, we'd love to welcome you. This is an exploration of the heart, independent of vocal skill, musical technique or experience. Like singing, chanting can be energizing, yet calming at the same time. Its great fun and it gets us out of our busy heads and into our hearts.

Chanting involves repeating sacred ancient mantras (mantra literally means mind tool / to liberate /free the mind) that help quiet the mind whilst experiencing the joy of opening and connecting to the heart, soothing the nervous system, and inducing a feeling of meditation and bliss.

The benefits of chanting can include:

Easing an anxious or troubled mind
Relaxing tension in the body
Opening the heart
Being happy and joyful for no good reason!
Feelings of natural love
Deepening of self-awareness
Promoting healthy emotional expression and release.
Chanting is open to everyone.

**Online booking price closes 7pm the day before the event. After that, on the door price increases to £25 - exact cash/PayPal only on the door** - book through Julie's website : https://www.truyouwellness.yoga/service-page/march-kirtan-maitri-belfast-1?referral=service_list_widget

It's useful to bring a bottle of water. We appreciate you arriving 6.50pm so we can start promptly.

Maitri welcomes you, as you are, always 💕

We offer you a quiet, calm, uncluttered space for you to find some peace.

Our teachers and therapists are all (very) qualified, experienced and have been teaching for years.

Whether you have mobility restrictions, live with chronic pain, mental health conditions or simply want to attend classes that are not overwhelming, non-egoistical and find a quiet space to connect to yourself, we can help ✨

No mirrors, no cameras, no tight leggings needed and no loud music being played (unless you attend a gong bath or a dance class obviously...) 🧘

Our doors are always open!
Explore our timetable on our website and message us if you have any questions.

With love,
Maitri Team
