Health and Social Care NI

Health and Social Care NI We plan and oversee the delivery of health and social care services for the population of Northern Ireland. This page is monitored 9am-5pm, Mon to Fri.

The Strategic Planning and Performance Group is responsible for planning, improving and overseeing the delivery of effective, high quality, safe, health and social care services. The Group is part of the Department of Health and accountable to the Minister for Health. We work in with the health and social care trusts, that directly provide services to people, to ensure that services meet people's

needs. We deploy and manage an annual budget from the Northern Ireland Executive of approximately £4 billion, to ensure that all services are safe and sustainable.

If you work in health or social care and specifically in delivering MSK-related services — we want to hear from you.

💬 Your feedback will help shape future MSK support across primary, secondary and community care.

We’re promoting a vital research project by Versus Arthritis to improve musculoskeletal (MSK) healthcare across Northern Ireland.

MSK conditions include:
🔹 Arthritis
🔹 Osteoarthritis
🔹 Back, neck and joint pain
🔹 Sports and injury-related issues

These conditions affect 1 in 4 people and can have a serious impact on mobility, pain, independence and mental health.

📋 If you work in health or social care and have experience with MSK services — we want to hear from you.
💬 Your feedback will help shape future MSK support across primary, secondary and community care.

🕒 The survey takes 15–20 mins and includes a save option so you can pause and return.

We are proud to support Deaf Equality Training for HSC staff, making our services more accessible for everyone.

Last week BDA Advocacy delivered BSL / ISL Equality training to 14 HSC staff in Craigavon Breast Screening department. During the session participants learned about barriers that Deaf people face when accessing healthcare, and discussed ways to make their service more accessible for our community.

It was lovely to have Dr Gerry Millar, GP Facilitator in Cancer and Palliative Care and also Charlene McGuigan from SPPG who fund our project, in attendance.

We are able to provide this training free of charge to HSC staff. Please contact us if you would like further information.

Health and Social Care Board

We arrange or ‘commission’ health and social care services for the 1.8 million people who live in Northern Ireland.

The Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) is a statutory organisation. We are accountable to the Department of Health (DoH) for translating the vision for health and social care into a range of services that deliver high quality and safe outcomes for patient and service users, are good value for the taxpayer, and comply with statutory duties.
