My work is guided by a simple purpose — to help people feel safe, calm, and empowered from within. After over 35 years in healthcare, including NHS and senior leadership roles, I followed my path into Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy, bringing together neuroscience, compassion, and intuition to support genuine change. I’m particularly passionate about helping people facing medical treatment, surgery, or radiotherapy, where mind-body tools can make a profound difference to comfort and wellbeing. Sessions available in Belfast, Lisburn, Garvagh, and online.

Many people decide to stop smoking or va**ng at a turning point.

Sometimes after a diagnosis.
Sometimes before surgery or medical treatment.
At that moment the motivation is strong — but the brain is still wired to expect the habit.
Smoking becomes linked to stress relief, routine and reward, which is why willpower alone can feel like a constant battle.
Hypnotherapy helps change the pattern driving the urge so stopping feels much more natural.

One of the things I love most about my work is seeing people enjoy life again in situations that used to feel impossible.
This client originally came to see me because fear of heights was limiting holidays and family experiences.
Today she sent me this photo from the top of a viewing platform along with the message:
“Hypno still working for me. Thank you so much.”
Your brain can learn fear patterns — but it can also learn safety again.

Sometimes people come to see me because something in their life has knocked them off course.

A relationship difficulty, a breakup, or a stressful situation that suddenly leaves them feeling anxious, unsettled, or constantly overthinking.

Often these are people who normally cope well.
They’ve managed life’s ups and downs before.

But certain experiences can push the nervous system into a state of heightened alert — where thoughts race, sleep becomes difficult, and everything starts to feel heavier than usual.

In my work we focus on helping the nervous system settle again so the mind can regain perspective and stability.

For many people this only takes a few sessions.

If something in your life has recently knocked you off balance, you don’t have to stay stuck there.

I see clients in Belfast , Garvagh and Ballymoney and online.

Bladder urgency is often assumed to be a bladder or prostate problem.

But in many cases the nervous system plays a significant role.

When the brain stays in alert mode it can amplify internal signals — including bladder sensations — creating sudden or intense urgency.

In my work I help clients calm the nervous system response so the brain becomes less reactive to those signals.

Jaw tension and clenching are very often treated as purely mechanical or dental issues.
Many people assume the problem sits in the muscles, the bite, or the structure of the jaw itself.

But in clinical practice, the jaw is frequently responding to something much deeper — the state of the nervous system.

When the brain perceives pressure, stress, uncertainty, or unresolved tension, it can maintain a subtle state of alertness. In this state, the body prepares for action by tightening certain muscle groups, and the jaw is one of the most common places this tension is held.

This is why jaw clenching, facial tension, teeth grinding, and even spasms often persist despite massage, dental devices, or conscious attempts to relax.

The issue is not a lack of awareness or effort.
It is the nervous system continuing to send “hold tension” signals.

Instead of trying to control the jaw directly, my work focuses on helping the nervous system settle. As the brain receives stronger signals of safety, the muscular tension patterns often soften naturally.

If you’re curious about this connection, I’ve written more about the brain–body mechanisms behind teeth grinding and jaw tension in my Brainz article here:

Sleep struggles are rarely just “a busy mind.”

When the nervous system stays activated, the brain continues scanning and processing as if it needs to stay alert — even when you’re completely exhausted.

This is why trying to force sleep or silence thoughts often makes the problem worse.
The body is driving the state, not the mind.

In my work at the we focus on helping the nervous system settle first — which is often when sleep starts to return much more naturally.

Quitting smoking or va**ng is rarely about willpower alone.
These habits are deeply connected to how the brain regulates stress, comfort, and routine.

When the brain updates its response, change becomes far easier.

Cumulative stress doesn’t always come from crisis — it often builds quietly when work is meaningful, demanding, and never really switches off.

Today I’m delivering short neuroscience and relaxation sessions for hospital staff, focused on understanding how stress accumulates in the nervous system and how to help the body settle at the end of the working day.

If you work in healthcare or another high-responsibility environment and think this kind of support could benefit your team, you’re welcome to get in touch.

If you’re struggling with jaw tension, clenching, or spasms, it’s easy to assume it’s purely physical.
But very often, the jaw is responding to a nervous system that’s stuck in high alert.

I’m based here at the clinic on Thursdays, and I work alongside other therapists — including massage and nutrition — to support jaw tension from all angles.

Massage can help release tight muscles.
Nutrition can support the body under stress.
And my role as a hypnotherapist is to help calm the nervous system so the brain stops sending constant “hold tension” signals to the jaw.

When those pieces work together, people often notice things start to ease in a much more sustainable way.

If you’re based near Ballymoney , Garvagh or Belfast and looking for support for yourself or your child aged 12 and over, you’re very welcome to get in touch.

I’m Sharon, a Clinical Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist working in Ballymoney, also supporting clients in Garvagh, Belfast, and online.

In this video, I explain who I work with and how I help adults and children aged 12+ whose lives have quietly started to shrink because of anxiety, fear, or ongoing stress.

Many people I see aren’t “falling apart” — but their nervous system is stuck in high alert.
This can show up as:
• constant worrying or overthinking
• difficulty sleeping
• anxiety about school, driving, travel, or everyday situations
• physical tension such as jaw clenching or headaches
• low confidence or feeling unlike yourself

Before becoming a hypnotherapist, I spent over 30 years in health and social care, including leading a large organisation through Covid. That experience deepened my understanding of how prolonged pressure and responsibility affect the nervous system — both professionally and personally.

My work focuses on helping the body and mind settle again, so calm, confidence, and control can return naturally. I work gently, practically, and in a way that helps people feel safe in their bodies again.

If you’re based in Ballymoney and looking for support for yourself or your child (12+), you’re very welcome to get in touch.

If your health anxiety hasn't settled since Christmas, you’re not imagining it — and it doesn’t mean anything is wrong.

When routines change and life slows down, the brain has more space to scan the body.
Less structure, more time to think, disrupted sleep, richer food, alcohol, and closed GP services can all heighten the nervous system’s alertness.

The brain misreads normal sensations as threat, and anxiety fills in the gaps with worry.
This isn’t regression — it’s a nervous system looking for certainty in an uncertain moment.

Calming the body and restoring gentle structure helps the alarm system settle again.
And when the nervous system calms, the thoughts usually follow.

For now, focus on calming the body first — steady breathing, gentle movement, and a little structure in your day.
And if this pattern keeps repeating, that’s exactly what I help with.
