This week we had the privilege of being invited onto the Acheson Family Farm in County Armagh, where we were welcomed by David Acheson and his son Craig. We were treated to a great chat on the history of the family and how the farm business has changed over four generations. You can read about the Acheson beef enterprise in today's Farming Life, where hard work and dedication to the sustainability of the family farm, by David, his wife and all the family, has ensured its ongoing success.

De Laval Training
Milking parlour software systems, whether for conventional systems or robots, are central to not only feed allocation and management, but also to complete herd data recording and analysis.

Colleagues from both Thompsons' Technical and Sales teams recently had further training on the latest versions of the DelPro software package from De-Laval enabling them to further enhance the back-up to Thompson’s customers using De-Laval milking equipment. Thanks to Sara Davidson and Neil Brown from De-Laval for an educational and informative session.

We recently had the opportunity to bring together all our hard working women and have a really interesting and informative afternoon on everything we could do to improve our health and wellbeing. With the help of the wonderful guest speaker, Dr. Catherine Hughes, a registered nutritionist and Senior Lecturer in Public Health Nutrition from Ulster University, the discussion was lively and there were no questions left unanswered.

And although we were chatting about being a bit healthier, we still enjoyed a small sweet treat and a cuppa, everything in moderation😉

Thanks to for the information on their health testing kits and a few other treats and for some great samples to make our breakfast time a bit healthier 💪😀

This week we welcomed a great group of Discover CAFRE's Level 3 Agriculture Students, for a tour around our York Road site. There were lots of questions and thoughts about the students future plans, which our team were happy to discuss and even share stories of how they came to work in Thompsons.

Led by our Formulations Manager Sharon Doherty, we had three groups going around the mill, with Kathryn Gibson and Trudi Scott, both part of the formulations team, in charge of a group and our Head of Buying, Ed Brown with another keen group of students.

We thoroughly enjoyed showing the students around and even had a bit of sunshine to top off their day out and about. We hope you enjoyed your visit and your afternoon out on farm 😀😎

At the weekend we saw the first of five qualifiers, giving riders the opportunity to be awarded a highly coveted place to compete at Balmoral Show 2026 in the hugely popular Performance Draught Class, which takes place on the Thursday morning during the show.
