Sometimes you just have to stop what
you’re doing, get on the floor and pet the dog :) ⁣

Oxytocin debate aside the science behind social connection is great to dive into whilst existing in this post pandemic / still slightly isolated world. ⁣

Neuromodulators like 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧 are released when we see someone we know, love or trust - this can be pets, friends, lovers or family.

There is no scientific evidence to say it has to be a specific type of connection or familiar - it all does the same thing for your brain. ⁣

Serotonin is tied to social connection and attachment - mitigating stress, improving our immune system and neural repair, regulating our nervous system, increasing our sense of well-being and creating a feeling of being and having ‘enough’. ⁣

𝐀 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚 ⁣
𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐭. ⁣

We are social species and when lockdowns / isolations are threatened or imposed we are denying our basic needs as human beings. ⁣

Spending time with family - chosen or biological, getting down on the floor to hug your dog, going for a walk with a friend, putting your phone in your pocket when you’re in company - these are all ways we can promote connection and boost serotonin levels every day. ⁣

When you spend time connecting to others (or with your pet) you can notice how it changes your mood, how your smile gets a little bigger, your breath slows and your hugs last a little longer. ⁣

Your hard edges start to soften. ⁣

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 : 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞, ⁣
𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐬, 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜. ⁣

Always xoxox

💫 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐭 Hot Yoga Belfast

I’ve cut down on my Pilates privates recently so if im not teaching (or taking selfies 🥲) the room is empty.

You could do a number of things in this room to be honest - Reformer Pilates, mat Pilates, 1-1 yoga, massage, the list goes on.

So if you’re not a serial killer and you’ve been
looking for a new space to do your thing - let me know!

We’ve got showers, changing rooms,
peanut butter balls and parking too ✨🤘🏼

In a desperate attempt to make sense of a generally quite chaotic world we, monkeys 🐒 🧠 with metacognition will attempt to put everyone and everything into a box.

We create identities, subscribe to belief systems and cry in devastation when the rules we have imposed upon ourselves and the world around us aren’t followed.

We create stories and often our stories argue with reality. Often the rules we make up consist of ‘shoulds’ and ‘shouldn’ts’ (eg: someone who believes everyone should let them out in traffic will get a shock every time they hit rush hour.)

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲. Coping with the world and making sense of the seemingly nonsensical.

𝐁𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞’𝐬 book tip toes on the line of cold and harsh but has some pretty good points (but I’ve got a theory it was actually written by a man who thought his words would be more palatable under the guise of a kind eyed old woman, he was right)

But, I would definitely recommend it - albeit warn you also of the final few chapters as they get a bit ropey 😂

It’s made me think of the stories I tell myself about myself - self limiting stories that feel like shackles sometimes.

It’s also made me look at the beliefs I have about what people should do or how they should act. I can see how stress erupts every time my beliefs argue with reality and see how simple it is to drop those thoughts and just accept what is.

You can do ‘The Work’ on so, so many parts of your life - your stories, ways you are arguing with reality and times when you are trying to control what other people do or think.

They’re all just stories.
Coping mechanisms.
Once we drop the illusion of control and accept what is, everything becomes simple.
It’s so simple it’s almost maddening.

It teeters on the edge of over simplification actually and in a few chapters can be quite flippant towards serious trauma but … I liked it.

Sometimes simple is needed. ✨

Sometimes we need reminded that it’s human nature to create these stories but we are not bound by them and we can free ourselves at any moment.

‘One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it.’

- Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

Thankyou Essential Nature Yoga for standing tall and showing your soul - so, like moths to a flame we can gather and show ours too. ✨🌙

Would v v v highly recommend the 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐚 20hr workshop with Alex Cat from The Yoga Clinic UK & TCTSY to anyone in the yoga / wellness / fitness industry who might see this.

Owning a Hot Yoga studio I have heard so many horror stories about how students have been treated in the past and have been on the receiving end of the same treatment myself.

I remember crying my whole way home one time because I was made fun of in front of a full class for coming out of a posture ‘𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐬𝐡’ lol what the heck 😂⁣

Anyway, the workshop was actually really reassuring. When I opened HYB I vowed to run things a little differently, inspired by my mentor Jenny at I’ve always tried to teach from a place of love and have hired teachers that do the same.

So if you have had a bad experience in the past or maybe have heard some whispers about crazy teachers who shout and scream at you from a podium (yep 🥲) here are some reassurances.

Here at 𝐇𝐘𝐁 we will 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 tell you that you cannot leave the room. We will always offer modifications and encourage you to ‘do what you can’.

We will never shout at you for ⁣
drinking water (again, yep 🥲) ⁣

We will never give 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 and will only verbally correct you if we think you may hurt yourself in a certain shape but never more than once.

We will always remind you to 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬. To honour your practise by taking breaks and sitting down when you need to.

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 refers to our ability to listen to our bodies and understand what we need. By choosing what is right for you instead of pushing your body into a shape or posture that feels wrong or painful is incredibly 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞.

We want you to know that at 𝐇𝐘𝐁 - as long as you are in the room, connected to your body and breath everything else is just an added bonus.

If there is anything else you think we could do to make your experience with us less intimidating or more of a safe and enjoyable experience please reach out.

From Warehouse raves in my 20s to
plant ceremonies in my 30s 🍃🥲

Natural Resilience is one of the many growing communities in Belfast that are made up of humans who want to heal and grow and support each other through it all - it’s so, so incredible to see and experience. ⁣

We - as highly complex monkeys with overly developed prefrontal lobes 🧠 🐵 - 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 to survive and thrive. ⁣

Recently and thanks to groups like this and Essential Nature Yoga I’ve felt safe to delve deeper into the woowoo, trusting the 🌿 medicine and letting go of fear - and in the process I feel like I’ve understood my purpose on this 🌏 so much more clearly. ⁣

Ten years ago without really knowing it i found my life line - 𝐲𝐨𝐠𝐚. I was able to reconnect to a body that did not feel like my own, to be a part of a community and was given tools of self regulation that helped me get through the day.⁣

I’m back at uni studying psychology, enrolling in trauma informed yoga TTs, constantly learning and reading and delving deeper into my own shadow work for a reason. ⁣

I want to provide the same healing space for someone who - like i did all those years ago - walks into a yoga class not really knowing why they’re there but feeling deep down they are in the right place. ⁣

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 ⁣
𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞. ⁣

So here’s to more exploring and expanding. ⁣
Letting go of fear and doing the work. 🌀✨

Getting this bunch of women together to punch and kick each other every week brings me so much joy ✨🥊

Thanks Arnaud @ Hybrid MMA for being the best and sorry for being so sweaty all the time. 🙃
