When I began practising over 30 years ago in Belfast naming my centre the Belfast Hypnotherapy Centre, I never dreamed I would also have clinics in Spain, on the Costa Blanca, as well.
People very often ask me why my style of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy is different from the conventional way.
It all stems back to my early years as a Hypnotherapist in Belfast in the early 80’s.
Back then Hypnotherapy was a new alternative treatment and many people viewed it with great scepticism. Having trained as an Analytical Hypnotherapist, I opened a small office in Belfast and started to treat clients. One of the Sunday newspapers decided to do a feature on me, and word started to get round there was this guy who could help to sort people out with their problems.
From that one article it just started to grow. I saw the employed, unemployed, multi millionaires, TV, Radio and sports personalities, people from every walk of life (to date I have seen well over 70,000 + people).
In a short space of time I had 7 Hypnotherapy Clinics in Northern Ireland and working 7 days a week flat out. People were coming to see me for various reasons and problems, among them the common ones such as to Stop Smoking Hypnosis or Lose Weight Hypnosis.
However, being in practice in Northern Ireland was completely different from Mainland UK due to the many victims of the troubles. In the early years counselling was very limited, so I had to help thousands of people caught up in the conflict, ranging from the rescue service personnel who had to go into the aftermath of bombings, to even the people caught up in bombings, shootings, bomb scares, armed robberies, the list was endless.
For example, a woman came to see me with chronic insomnia, this was due to the fact the whenever she woke up one night there were 4 gunmen standing around her bed.
Then there is the survivor from the Kegworth air disaster who needed to overcome their fear of flying. There are countless stories like these, and I am sure that no other Hypnotherapist had to do what I had to !
Sadly, I still get people with these problems coming to see me even now at my Northern Ireland Hypnosis clinics.
It was because of this, I came away from my conventional training of Analytical Hypnotherapy where people would normally be regressed into their childhood to try to recall the originating cause of their panic attacks, or other problems.
This could take up to 15 sessions to achieve, when clearly it wasn’t in their childhood at all, it had happened right then!
All of these people had suffered quite enough and just wanted sorted out as quickly as possible so they could get on with their lives. And that is exactly what I did and still continue to do!
Conventional Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy then my Fast Track Hypnosis .
I came away from conventional Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy and developed my own techniques, (also introducing specialised equipment from America to speed up the whole process ). I achieved this by cutting everything down to the fastest way possible, without losing any effectiveness, so that my clients get over their particular problems.
Having developed these techniques I called it Fast Track Hypnosis and I have been using this method ever since.
Stop Smoking and Weight Control using Hypnosis.
Continuing from that I developed my own Fast Track Stop Smoking and Weight Control sessions. This was achieved by dispensing with all the unnecessary parts of a traditional session, e.g. I don’t waste part of a session telling the person all about the health risks associated with smoking – everybody already knows that!
It’s straight into the session, thereby saving the client time and money.
When I started doing these new techniques the media (TV, newspapers and radio) wanted to know if it really did work, so they started putting me to the test.
I proved my “Fast Track Stop Smoking in 30 minutes” twice on TV one against 2 other methods . My Fast Track hypnosis was the only one that was successful. Another programme, I had to help a psychologist overcome her agoraphobia, again using my Fast Track methods.
Fear OF Flying with Hypnosis

Another programme and newspaper featured me helping a young boy of ten years of age, who was having panic attacks. He did not want to go to school because of these attacks, and tried to throw himself out of a car at 45 mph. Again this problem were resolved in a very short space of time.
There is a great deal of satisfaction in my job, and people would often ask me if I ever use hypnosis on myself. Of course I do, and have done so throughout my long career!
Childbirth using Hypnosis
I have seen Hypnotherapists advertising Hypnosis as a completely new way of helping women when giving birth to their babies. In fact my 3 children were all born under Hypnosis and my eldest is now 28 years of age! It was used on my wife for each one of them, no pain relief was needed. All my equipment was taken to the hospital and used there, along with a crowd of doctors and nurses watching everything that I did.
Exam and Accelerated learning using Hypnosis
It was also used for my children’s exams and accelerated learning, and also when they were getting their inoculations. Our family doctor thought it was hilarious that the kids would be standing laughing as he gave them their injections. I had to show numerous medical students this very quick technique.
Sports Motivation using Hypnosis
My children were also into horse riding, and with the use of hypnosis for sports motivation and also confidence, each one of them attained the status of Champion Riders of the Year!
