The left-hand side of the brain enables us to โname things, compare, understand interrelationsโ Bessel Van Der Kolk.
Left side remembers facts, statistics, vocabulary.
๐ผ
The right-hand side carries the emotion of it, smell, touch etc.
This deactivation of the left hand-side can happen when we hear shocking news for example. It can be difficult for us to process and use language to retell what we have been told.

This helps to explain why healing practices which involve the right-hand side of the brain help us heal, as the memory of trauma is held in the felt experience of it.
Healing practices that involve the right side of the brain are powerful for healing along with talk therapy.

Drama, painting, movement, breathwork, yoga, cooking, pottery, saunas, cold water are all examples.
Feeling is such an important part of healing as this is what is heightened in traumatic experiences.
Especially for those who leave the body to cope through dissociation which is a coping mechanism but also fragments us.
When you feel safe again, slowly and gently reconnecting to your body helps you to reconnect to your wholeness and integrate fragmented parts.
