Winter is when tuning stability matters most.

Central heating, colder nights, and changing humidity all affect how well a piano holds its tuning.

At this time of year, the goal is helping the instrument settle properly so it stays reliable in the months that follow.

Stability first.

As January comes to a close, it’s a good time to think ahead.

Regular piano tuning isn’t just about today’s sound — it’s about keeping an instrument stable, reliable, and enjoyable to play over time.

A simple annual routine makes everything easier — for the piano, and for the people playing it.

Looking after pianos properly is what we do.

🎹 Piano care is rarely a one-off.

Most of our work happens over time — getting to know an instrument, understanding how it behaves in its space, and helping it stay stable year after year.

That kind of care is built on trust, consistency, and honest advice.

It’s how pianos — and long-term relationships — stay healthy.

Looking back over last year’s bookings, a significant number came from customers returning after a gap.

In most cases, those pianos simply needed a little more care at the start — because when an instrument isn’t tuned annually, it often drops in pitch and becomes less stable.

With the right approach, stability can usually be restored, and regular tuning becomes straightforward again.

Consistency is what keeps both pianos — and long-term care — on track.

Last year, 44% of our bookings came from people using The Piano Doctor for the first time.

Some were new piano owners.
Some were returning to an instrument after years away.

Every piano — and every customer — starts somewhere.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen steady 16% growth in our business.

That’s not down to quick fixes or shortcuts —
it comes from consistency, honest advice, and long-term care.

Growth is reassuring, but trust is what matters most.

A massive "thank you" to all our lovely customers for supporting local business! 🙂🎼🎹

Regular tuning isn’t just about today’s pitch — it’s about long-term stability.

When a piano is tuned consistently:
• pitch stays closer to standard
• tuning holds better
• fewer corrective visits are needed
• overall stress on the instrument is reduced

Leave it too long, and the piano can drop in pitch and become harder to stabilise again.

Consistency keeps things simple — for the piano and the owner.

Having spent many years as a professional musician — including time as the keyboard player with chart-topping band, Kajagoogoo — Stuart approaches piano tuning with a strong sense of musicality and balance.

His work is informed both by formal training and by decades of experience listening to instruments in real musical settings. Stuart pays close attention to how a piano settles, how evenly it plays, and how well it holds between visits.

Rather than rushing the process, he works steadily and carefully, always with the long-term health of the instrument — and the player’s experience — in mind.

Meet the Team: Stuart

Stuart brings a thoughtful, musician’s ear to his work with The Piano Doctor. With a long background in music, his professional life has always been shaped by careful listening, attention to detail, and an understanding of how instruments respond in real use.

In addition to his creative career, Stuart undertook formal piano tuning training at the Yamaha factory in Milton Keynes during the 1980s. He has since continued to develop his skills through hands-on experience and ongoing practical work.

Known for his calm manner and patient approach, Stuart takes great care with every instrument he works on. For him, good piano care isn’t just about pitch — it’s about helping a piano feel comfortable, reliable, and enjoyable to play.

Meet The Team: Mark

Alongside tuning, 'The Piano Doctor' places strong emphasis on small-scale piano repairs as part of everyday work. These are often repairs that customers are pleasantly surprised to discover can be carried out while tuning the piano at little or *no* extra cost.

Repair work across the team is guided by the same principles as tuning: careful assessment, minimal intervention where possible, and respect for the instrument as it is.

This approach is led by Mark and is a standard applied across our team. From easing sticking keys and adjusting pedals to addressing noisy actions, the focus is on spotting issues early — before they become more disruptive or costly.
