This week highlighted an urgent reality: people with disabilities in Northern Ireland are disproportionately affected by mental health conditions, and meaningful political action is long overdue.
🔹Depression and anxiety are now the third highest cause of disease and disability in Northern Ireland.
🔹More people here live with a disability than in the rest of the UK, often increasing the risk of developing or worsening mental health conditions.
🔹Many conditions begin in childhood, with young people facing high levels of Adverse Childhood Experiences.
🔹The legacy of conflict remains, contributing to significantly higher rates of PTSD, especially for individuals disabled as a result of conflict-related violence.
As European Disability Rights Week closes, we’re calling on our politicians to take action, and we need your help to amplify that message.
