As members of Northern Ireland Safety Group for many years, we benefit from a vast amount of industry relevant news and insights shared through this fantastic unit. Recently we became aware of an initiative that the NISG is running for the construction industry in conjunction with Building Mental Health Alliance.
They have created one place with direct access to 3 different mental health helplines in Northern Ireland that can offer immediate support for those in need. The scheme involves the Samaritans, Lifeline and the Lighthouse Club which is a charity dedicated to specifically working with the construction industry.
Larger construction firms may have the advantage of being able to incorporate staff training for topics such as mental wellbeing and where to get help, and many companies are now embracing the idea of a mental first aider, who can make available useful resources to their colleagues, but it can feel harder for the smaller business or sole traders to feel as supported. Stresses for whatever reason – financial, workload, health, family issues - can be overwhelming but there is help out there.
At N I Protective Clothing Co we are a small family run business, we know what it’s like to wear many hats at the same time – and feel the pressure of that. To help do our bit for the construction industry, we have offered to supply the project’s stickers with our safety helmets. These carry a QR code which when scanned will take you straight to the webpage which is hyperlinked to the three helplines. No information is made available to us in any way! Our only concern is to try and distribute the information so that the help is there for you or a colleague who needs it.
Please scan this QR code and pass it on to anyone who you think needs, or knows, someone who it would benefit. Remember, no one needs to feel alone, and you are not the first to go through this.
