🌍 Insight into Life on Deployment – Op TANGHAM 🇸🇴

One of ’s Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (JNCO) recently returned from a 6-month deployment to Somalia in support of the United Nations. Deployed as a Combat Medical Technician Paramedic, they’ve shared a glimpse of their experience:

“I deployed in June to Africa and was based at a forward operating base. Every day brought new challenges and opportunities. I led crisis medical training, successfully training over 150 Somali National Army soldiers. I also completed my Defence Train The Trainer (DTTT) Phase 4 course, which enabled me to work with partner nations to help Somali soldiers develop the skills to train their own personnel.

In addition to training, I provided clinical oversight for medics in theatre and medical cover for movements outside camp during Key Leader Engagements. This role took me to various locations within and beyond the country.

During downtime, I helped run the welfare area and took on the important task of managing the UK delegation’s mail, ensuring it was delivered to camp and distributed to personnel – a small but meaningful way to boost morale.

Spending Christmas on deployment was a unique experience, filled with camaraderie, laughter, and unforgettable memories.”

Another fantastic example of our team excelling in their roles. Well done! 👏🏻

Could this be you?

🌍 DEPLOYED TO THE END OF THE EARTH ❄️

Capt Wright, one of Medical Officers, is currently deployed to Rothera Station with and has shared an incredible update from life on the Antarctic Peninsula.

Four weeks in, time has flown as she’s settled into station life at the largest BAS research hub —home to cutting-edge labs, a dive centre with hyperbaric chamber, an airfield, and a community of up to 150 people, all operating year-round in one of the world’s most extreme environments.

As Station Doctor, Capt Wright is the first port of call for all things medical—clinical care, emergency preparedness, training, and resource management—supported remotely from the UK. No two days are the same… and she’s even added shopkeeper and postmaster to her CV!

A challenging, rewarding, and truly unique opportunity for Army Reserve personnel—with bonus points for breathtaking views and resident penguins 🐧✨

We wish Capt Wright every success for the remainder of her deployment.
