As 2025 draws to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on the professional development of our physio team — and our continued contribution to the wider private practice community.

This year has been an exciting one for CPD at The Physio Group, expertly led and organised by our Training Manager Jo Montgomery 👏

We’ve been fortunate to host world-class speakers from the MSK world, learn from leading orthopaedic surgeons, and welcome outstanding soft tissue therapists from England — all with the shared goal of raising clinical standards and improving patient care.

Delighted for former client Charlie Smyth on fulfilling a lifelong dream with a brilliant debut in the NFL yesterday. 🏈🇺🇸

Charlie first came to me three years ago with a complex injury to a very important part of his kicking anatomy. At the time he was pushing hard to become Down GAA’s No.1 goalkeeper — his kicking was his superpower.

Like so many GAA lads, he was juggling county, club, and college football at St Mary’s University Belfast. A man in demand, under pressure, and then came the chance of trials in American Football.

We worked together to get to grips with the injury and the many interferences that were holding him back and draining his motivation.

What stood out from day one? His resilience and focus.
Charlie is a young man who backs himself, puts the work in, and keeps moving forward.

Buzzing to see him take this step onto the elite stage — and hopefully just the start of a long and fulfilling career. 👏🔥

On Friday we had the privilege of attending the 20-year reunion of the All-Ireland winning Down Minors! 🏆

Under the management of Mark Turley and his team, we were proud to provide the medical and physiotherapy support throughout that unforgettable season. 💪

It’s amazing to think this was the very first team we supported when we set up our clinic 20 years ago. 🙌

Brilliant to hear some of the lads are still playing club football two decades on — and others now counting down the days until they qualify for the Down Masters! 😄

Even more rewarding was knowing that some of the advice, guidance and rehab decisions we gave back then helped keep players performing at their best for years after. ❤️

Here’s to the memories, friendships and the power of staying active.
Already looking forward to the 25-year reunion! 🎉

Our Story

The Physio Group is a Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic first opened in 2005 in Newry at 37 Kilmorey Street.

The original name of the Clinic was “The Newry Clinic for Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries”. It quickly established itself as one of the leading musculoskeletal private practices in the area. Due to a growing client base, a clinic was opened in the heart of Belfast City Centre ( Alexander House, 17 Ormeau Avenue, Belfast, BT2 8FE). Initially to service existing Newry clients studying or working in Belfast City Centre. However, it has quickly established itself locally due to its easy accessibility to local office workers. A further clinic has since opened in Newcastle ( 1 Shimna Road, Newcastle, Co. Down, BT33 0AS). Clients from the surrounding area can easily access this purpose built clinic.

The Physio Group has 3 partners, Frank Quinn, Kieran Murray and Stephen Brannigan who are highly experienced Chartered Physiotherapists. They have previously worked in the English Premier League ( Birmingham City and Sunderland AFC). Rugby League ( Gateshead Thunder). Inter-County Level Gaelic Football with Down and Antrim GAA both men and women. As well as women’s MMA fighter Leah McCourt.

The vision of the clinic is to lead the way by consistently delivering the best musculoskeletal experience available.
