Sometimes you do something so special and worthwhile you go home reinvigorated in your belief that whilst what you’re doing is always worthwhile it can also actually help make a real change for the good in people’s lives. 🙏

Yesterday PFA NI invited our fellow associations in The Gaelic Players Association, Rugby Players Ireland and PFA Ireland to a five-a-side tournament in the aid of The Big Step campaign. ⚽️👁️‍🗨️

We called our fellow associations for support and they answered and more, it was hugely appreciated 👏🎗️

Too many lives have been harmed by gambling addiction, and for too long the narrative has been dominated by flashy ads and false promises. Through our association with The Big Step campaign, we want to show there’s another way – one built on community, support, and the love of football.

We will continue to work with our recently established Players Group and The All Party Group On Reducing Harm Related To Gambling and support those vulnerable to the endless ad campaigns💙

⚽️Football should bring people together – not put them at risk.
🙌 Let’s create change.

Good Luck to Royal School Armagh Rugby Team who are competing in the Schools Cup Semi-Final today at 1430 in Kingspan Stadium and to their Hockey Team who are competing tomorrow 26 February in the Schools Cup Semi-Final at 12 pm in Lisnagarvey. RSA has encouraged both Rugby and Hockey players at the school to complete a UPMC ImPACT baseline concussion test under the guidance of SMNI - setting a great example in the Schools sporting community in NI.

Welcome to our new Team Member Richard Moore. Richard is an accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sports Scientist with over 10 Years experience in elite sports. Most recently working for AFC Bournemouth, Richard has also worked with Houston Dynamo FC and Derby County FC. Thanks to for the invitation to talk on and at the clinic last night!

It was a great evening with some interesting discussion on all things concussion related. Great to meet the dedicated Physios and PTs doing great work across many sporting disciplines in Derry and the North West!

Great take home points-
👉 Concussion needs to be respected - best results if recognised asap and immediately removed from play
👉 Concussion is a very treatable condition - rehab and intervene early before chronic patterns establish
👉 Rest does not work for this condition and often causes chronic issues
👉 The best way to prevent a concussion is to properly treat and rehabilitate current concussion symptoms

Congratulations to who have taken the step of undertaking baseline concussion testing for their 1st XI squad.

To our knowledge, they are one of the first hockey teams in Ireland to take this proactive step in concussion management and player safety.👏
