It’s hard make no mistake!
Training isn’t meant to be easy. It’s meant to challenge you. Break you down. Build you back up.

Because if it was easy, everyone would do it — and it wouldn’t be worth much, would it?

At Exsto Gym, we don’t sugar-coat the grind.
We embrace it. Optimise it. Make every rep, every drop of sweat count.

Our coaches aren’t here to just clap you through a workout — they’re here to maximise your time, fine-tune your form, and push you further than you thought possible.

💥 The pain? Temporary.
💪 The results? Long-term.
😤 The satisfaction? Unmatched.

Come for the challenge.
Stay for the progress.

You won’t always feel motivated. You won’t always feel ready.
But you will always feel better after showing up.

Some days it’s beast mode.
Other days it’s dragging yourself in with one eye open and a protein bar in your hoodie pocket.
Either way — it counts.

Progress doesn’t care if you were “feeling it.”
It just stacks every rep, every session, every drop of effort.

You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to be here.

Why We Still Do Press-Ups (And You Should Too)
You’ll still find press-ups in our training blocks – and it’s not because we’ve run out of equipment. It’s because bodyweight movements work.

Here’s why we keep them in the mix:
• ✅ Build real-world strength – not just gym strength
• ✅ Fire up your core, shoulders, chest and triceps in one move
• ✅ Improve mobility and stability (without overloading joints)
• ✅ No equipment, no excuses – train anywhere, anytime
• ✅ Test control, not just brute power

Progressive overload doesn’t always mean adding more plates. Sometimes it means slowing it down, adding reps, changing tempo, or going full-body-to-floor with perfect form.

Press-ups are a reminder that your body is your best piece of kit.

Let’s build from the ground up. 🔥

Why Everyone’s Talking About Pilates 🧘‍♀️

Pilates isn’t just for core work (although your abs will thank you). It’s one of the most effective ways to build real, balanced strength — without the impact.

✅ Improves posture
✅ Builds deep core strength
✅ Boosts flexibility & mobility
✅ Reduces risk of injury
✅ Supports strength training & cardio performance

Whether you’re a lifter, runner, or just want to move and feel better — Pilates is your game-changer.

Our Pilates classes with Aimee run:

Thursday @ 7:15PM

📣 Should Everyone Be Squatting? Let’s Break It Down.

Squats are often called the king of all exercises – but does that mean they’re right for everyone?

✅ The Benefits of Squats:
• 🔥 Full-body compound movement
• 🍑 Builds serious lower body strength (glutes, quads, hamstrings)
• 🏋️‍♂️ Improves core stability and posture
• 🦵 Boosts joint mobility and flexibility
• 🧠 Trains functional movement – think stairs, lifting, life
• 💥 Efficient – big impact for time spent

⚠️ The Drawbacks / Considerations:
• ❌ Not ideal for everyone’s anatomy – hip or ankle mobility can limit form
• 😓 High risk if done with poor technique or excessive load
• 💣 Can aggravate existing back or knee issues
• 🔁 Often over-prioritised – strength doesn’t live and die by the back squat

🔍 Verdict:
Squats are powerful – but not mandatory.
If they feel good, move well, and suit your goals – go for it.
If not? There are plenty of smart alternatives that build strength just as effectively.

Why You Shouldn’t Be Finishing Your Sets.

There’s a difference between doing the work… and pushing to the edge of what you’re capable of.

That’s where training to failure comes in — and it’s one of the most effective (and underused) methods for building real strength and changing your body.

Let’s break it down:

🔻 What is training to failure?
It means performing a set of an exercise until you can no longer do another rep with good form. Not because it’s a bit sore. Not because your mind wants to stop. Because your muscles physically can’t push one more time.

🔻 Why does it work?
• It maximally recruits muscle fibres, especially the high-threshold motor units that are harder to activate.
• It creates more muscle tension, which leads to greater adaptation.
• It tells your body: “This isn’t enough anymore — you need to get stronger.”

🔻 But let’s be honest… it’s hard.
• Most of us stop 2–3 reps too early — not out of laziness, but because failure is uncomfortable.
• Some days you don’t feel on it. Energy is low. Life’s in your head.
• That’s why training to failure isn’t something you do every set of every session. It’s a tool, not a rule.

🔻 How to do it right:
• Save failure sets for your last set of an exercise (especially for isolation work).
• Use it more often on machines or bodyweight movements where form breakdown is less risky.
• Be smart. Training to failure is a weapon. Use it when you want to ignite change — not every rep, every time.

🔻 The bottom line?
You grow from what challenges you. If you’re leaving the gym with gas left in the tank every session, don’t be surprised when results plateau.

Pushing to failure isn’t just physical — it’s mental. It’s knowing the difference between tired and done. And it’s that willingness to lean into discomfort that separates good results from great ones.

Not every day will feel amazing. Not every set will be perfect. But when you push past your limits — that’s where the real change lives.
