Kiya has recently joined our home as a carer.

Today she arrived at work with the most beautiful colours in her hair.

On seeing her hair tied up in a bobble Maureen couldn’t resist asking if she’d allow her to braid it.

Kiya was more than happy to sit and be pampered while on shift.

This was a lovely nurturing activity that brought Maureen and Kiya lots of joy and helped them to build an even closer bond.

It’s looks beautiful Kiya, well done Maureen.

After lunch today we hosted a General Knowledge Quiz in our Dining Room.

Each table worked together as a team, there was something for everyone on the quiz from nursery rhymes to Queens.

Titch, Justine and Maureen were our winning team today scoring 13/14.

Can anyone help them with the question they got wrong, What is the largest Castle in Scotland?

Thank you so much to the staff team for hosting this quiz.

This morning we got our bike pedals out, the majority of our residents had a go. Which was wonderful.

These are a great tool, as they’re adaptable to enable everyone who wants to, to be able to enjoy them.

Not only are they great for exercise but they’re a great tool to spark reminiscing conversations.

It was lovely to hear our residents chatting about riding their bikes in the past. A lot of our residents, rode their bikes to school.

Please watch this video, to hear encouragement, competition, friendship and laughter.

A very heartwarming morning at Holbrook Hall.

One thing we pride ourselves on here at Holbrook Hall is making people feel welcome and that was shown today in abundance.

Daphne has joined us for day care and Vera & Elsie were wonderful and supportive when she asked to join them for a game of scrabble.

Having not play for some time Daphne soon remembered the rules and became a welcomed opponent to our scrabbles.

Tonight was one of our favourite nights of the month.

Cheese and Wine Night

Although hardly anyone fancied the wine tonight but no one turned down the cheese and crackers.

These smiley face photos bring us so much joy.

It’s was lovely to stand serving the treats while listening to our residents chatting about the flavourings of the cheese and which were their favourite.

We challenged each other to a game of throw the dice today.

Each person got three goes, to see who would score the highest amount by combining all three throws.

Justine very early on scored the highest score available 18, by throwing three 6s and no one was able to match her.

The majority of the throws took place in the lounges. We then went around the bedrooms to enable everyone who wanted to, to join in.

Our residents keep finding these National days to challenge us.

Today was…..National Carrot Cake Day.

So, off we went to purchase all the ingredients, and there was a lot! We then worked as a group to create the most wonderfully smelling recipe.

The comment of the day was from Titch ‘you know you can buy them ready made’, yes Titch were very aware but they won’t taste as good as ours with all the love that’s been put into making it.

We’re looking forward to sampling it at teatime and seeing if it meets Titch’s taste test.

Today is National Hot Chocolate Day. This day is the perfect excuse to indulge in a cup of rich, creamy hot chocolate. Whether you're a purist who loves the classic version or an adventurer eager to try new flavours, this day is for you.

So alongside the drinks trolley this evening, we served speciality Hot Chocolates.

There was:
Baileys
Baileys sauce
Orange Flavouring
Whipped Cream
Marshmallows
Sprinkles
Chocolate Sauce

Our residents and staff were thrilled with the selection on offer and were eager to create their own hot chocolates.

These were then enjoyed by all who had one.

This afternoon the filming chosen for our movie matinee was:

Good Night Mister Tom.

The book to this film has been read by some of our residents, so they were looking forward to seeing if the movie lived up to expectations.

We had tissues at the ready as when a few staff members watched this they were needed.
