Try our Feldenkrais movement classes! Gentle and mindful, designed to help restore mobility and relaxation, expand your range of comfortable movement and help find ways to reduce pain. If you would prefer not to join a group class, one-to-ones are also available.

Habits can be useful things. Without them we would have to decide how to do everything each time we did it! Not only which hand should I use to open a door but which part of the hand to touch the door with, how high to lift the arm, which foot to put forward and so on. We would not get much accomplished in a day...

A habit is a sign of something we have learned well and we all have a vast number of them -- from a favoured hand to open a door right down to how we take each breath. But when we have no alternative to our habitual action, when we can't do a thing differently, it is a compulsion. Sometimes a thing is so well learned that we do not even realise that there is an alternative. Many habits are very useful, essential even, but others may have outlived there usefulness and can hold us back or cause pain and injury over time.

Examining our movement habits is a fundamental part of a Feldenkrais class. Discover different ways that you can perform basic functions like standing, reaching, walking and more. In discovering alternatives we can release ourselves from compulsion and develop choice and freedom in our actions. We can stop doing the things that prevent us from doing more.

Hi I'm Jon, Iโ€™ve just moved to Belper with my partner and our son, and weโ€™re really happy here. A lovely place to live, lots of interesting things going on and a warm welcome โ€“ thank you Belper!

My contribution to the (hopefully!) interesting things going on: Iโ€™m a fully qualified, guild certified Feldenkrais practitioner and will be teaching movement classes for people looking to improve posture, balance, coordination, their general well being and movement.

Our classes are focused on learning to clarify and refine your connection to yourself and your movement and help find easier, more pleasurable ways to do the things that you want to do. Whether thatโ€™s dancing, yoga, running and other sporting activities or just getting up and down, out and about walking or reaching for a tin of beans from a high shelf!

Weโ€™re at the Sage Yoga Studio at the Derwentside Shopping Mill in Belper on Tuesdays 10-11 am, starting Tuesday 21st January. We have some promotional discounts available in January and February, 25% off your first four-class pass or 50% of your first drop in class, so come give it a go.

Classes are a friendly, non-competitive environment where each person can work through carefully structured movement experiments within their own level of comfort.

By doing less you have the opportunity to feel more. It seems obvious that it's hard to spot a candle being lit on a bright sunny day but easy in a darkened room; hard to hear a whisper at a loud concert but easy in a quiet room. It is the same with sensing our movement. When you make large efforts and strain it is harder to notice the small differences in effort between one movement and the next. During Feldenkrais lessons we aim to make finer and finer distinctions in our movement and therefore must give ourselves the chance to do so. Do less to notice more.

In the lessons, rather than simply "doing" something we are learning to improve the way we move. Then when it is time to "do" something we will be able to do it better.

It's time to say a fond farewell to the Farmstead hall, a lovely venue in Houghton Regis that has been host to our Feldenkrais classes for the last couple of years. But most of all thank you to the lovely people who have come to our classes!
We are relocating soon to Derbyshire. If you are in the north Derby area and are interested in finding ways to improve your movement look out for the new venue details. We will post them when we have them.
The classes aren't all stopping though -- Our Monday evening online classes are available wherever you have an internet connection! We hope to see you soon.
