We understand that managing a household budget can be tough, and food costs often feel like the hardest part. That’s why we share helpful resources with our households, that can make a real difference.
We support those who face extra challenges.
We know that many hardworking people – often older members of our community – struggle to purchase food, whether due to financial pressures, limited mobility, or sometimes both. That’s why it matters so much to ensure support is available for those who really need it. Whenever possible, we also encourage choices that are nourishing and sustaining, helping people stay well and active.
There are some brilliant apps that connect people with surplus food at low (or no) cost which may be useful:
Olio – where neighbours and local businesses share surplus food.

Too Good To Go – offering discounted “magic bags” from cafés, restaurants, and shops.

Community food projects
As well as Apps, there are wonderful local places such as
Loaves and Fishes Pantry Shop, Alfreton.
Hope for Belper food bank/community hub.

There are many places where you can find affordable food and a welcoming community. These projects often rely on steady footfall and engagement to keep running and grow – but just like our support, they are precious resources. As with the home shopping services which are for genuinely housebound people who have no-one to shop for essentials for them. We kindly ask that you consider whether you are genuinely in need before accessing them, so they can continue to help people who need it most.
Making the most of what you have
Sometimes the biggest difference comes from planning and prioritising. We often support households with budgeting, meal planning and food shopping advice, to make informed, healthy choices, help make money go further and reduce stress.
If you know of other apps, projects or local places that help people access affordable food, please do share them with us (and each other) through the comments below – your knowledge could make a big difference to someone in need. Together, by sharing resources wisely, we can make sure support reaches as many households as possible.
