As our bodies change, so too can our relationship with food. For many, menopause is a time of physical and emotional transition. But whatās less talked about is the link between menopause and eating disorders, a connection thatās often overlooked, but very real.
Hormonal shifts, changing body shape, disrupted sleep, and life transitions like children leaving home can all leave women feeling unsteady. For some, disordered eating can develop as a way to feel more āin controlā. For others, it may be a resurfacing of earlier difficulties with food and body image.
Eating disorders arenāt just something that affects teenagers. They can appear, or reappear, at any age. And while the causes are complex, menopause can be a significant factor.
