Mick passed away at home, in Duffield, on Thursday 25th September 2025, aged 82 years.

Beloved husband of the late Sue, Much loved dad of Stuart, Peter and Jim, grandad of Michael, Becky and the late Anthony, great grandad to Grace, father-in-law, brother, uncle and a friend to many.

Mick was proud to have served as Sub Officer at Duffield Fire Station for 28 years. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
A service for Mick will be held in the Chapel at Duffield Cemetery, Hazelwood Road DE56 4DQ on Friday 24th October 2025 at 10:30am.

The service will be a celebration of Mick’s life; black dress is not required. Family flowers only please, Donations in lieu may be given at the service for The Air Ambulance Service. Donations may also be given online at www.rydefunerals.co.uk/donations

Here at Thomas Ryde & Son, we have seen an increase in marketing activity from some national direct cremation providers.

Many people aren’t even aware that their local independent funeral director offers the same direct cremation services, let us assure you that this is something we have always offered.

What makes us different?

👉🏽Our team are here to guide and support you and your loved ones.
👉🏽Your loved one will be taken into our care at the earliest opportunity, and they will remain in Belper with us until the cremation takes place.

A local dignified direct cremation arranged by our team here at Thomas Ryde & Son costs £1,445.

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Gav on Wednesday 27th August aged 56 years.

Gav was a loving husband and devoted father, and he will be sorely missed by all his family and very many friends.

A service to celebrate Gav’s life is to be held at Trent Valley Crematorium, Derby on Monday 29th September 2025 at 1:30pm. Those wishing to pay their respects to Gav but are unable to attend the service may wish to gather at Ascot Drive Fire Station, where Gav will pass on his way to the crematorium at approximately 12:50pm.
Family flowers only please donations made in loving memory of Gav will support the work of the Fire Fighters Charity and Pancreatic Cancer UK, these maybe made at the service or online at rydefunerals.co.uk/donations.

It is with great sadness we announce that George passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday 21st August 2025, aged 89 years.
George was the beloved husband of Maureen, much loved dad to Caroline and Christopher, grandad to Sean, Siobhan, Tara, Louise, Chantelle and the late Patrick. Great grandad to Josh, Cory, Freddie, Amelia, Jessica, Connie, Kailem, Brandon, Thomas, James, Charlotte, Lewis, Bella and the late Kai, also great great grandad to Lillie-Mae.
George was immensely proud of his family and will be dearly missed by all.
A service for George will be held at St Peter's Church, Belper at 2:00pm on Friday 26th September followed by a committal service at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Swanwick.

Nick was a loving husband to Wendy, a treasured father to Wendy and the late Steven & Tim, and a devoted stepfather to Nick and Stephanie. Nick will be sorely missed by all his family and many friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Iris Fox. Shirley passed away peacefully at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Derby on Saturday 2nd August. Aged 90 years.

Shirley was the loving wife of the late Kenneth Jacob Fox, as well as a devoted mother, and devoted grandma (to nine), great grandma (to seventeen), and great great grandma (to one), it goes without saying Shirley will be sorely missed by all her family and many friends.

There will be a celebration of Shirley's life at St Clements Church, Horsley on Thursday 28th August 2025 at 2:00pm. You are warmly invited to send floral tributes to reflect Shirley’s love of flowers, these can be sent c/o Thomas Ryde & Son, Funeral Directors, Belper so they can travel with Shirley on her final journey.

We’re delighted to invite you to our annual Coffee Morning on Saturday 27th September, from 10:00am – 12:00 noon at The Batemans Hall, Christ Church, Belper (DE56 1BA).

Come along and enjoy a cuppa, delicious cakes, and good company – all while helping us raise funds for wonderful causes. It’s always a lovely community event, and we’d love to see as many friendly faces as possible.

It is with immense sadness that we announce that David passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday 27th July 2025 at the Royal Derby Hospital, aged 75 Years.

David was a loving husband to Ann, a devoted father to Martin & Joanne and a treasured grandad to four grandchildren. David was a proud family man, and he will be sorely missed by all his family and many friends. David was a successful businessman and was honoured to have served on the committee and the board at Derbyshire County Cricket Club, during his spare time David enjoyed nothing more than cheering on the mighty Rams.

A service to celebrate David’s life is to be held at Markeaton Crematorium (Main Chapel) on Wednesday 27th August 2025 at 1:30pm.
