Sage Yoga Studio Belper

Sage Yoga Studio Belper Laurie of Sage Yoga offers down to earth teachings of authentic Yoga, Meditation and Qigong. I really look forward to sharing what I learn in more detail soon.

Our History, Ethos and Vision:
Hello, I'm Laurie, local Yoga teacher and Owner of Sage Yoga Studio in Belper. We opened our doors to our community in September 2018 with the vision of creating a friendly, non-intimidating and supportive environment for anyone wanting to explore the practice of authentic yoga. Our space has provided a haven of calm and safety for many students wanting to re-connect, breathe and grow as an individual and as part of a like-minded community. Nearly 4 years on and despite world events we have grown into a supportive group of teachers and practitioners. We work together with the aim of cultivating compassion, kindness and deeper connection to ourselves and each other with a view to creating positive ripples out into the local community and beyond. Bio:
My own journey into Yoga began with a class taken over 20 years ago. The teacher awakened a deep sense of curiosity and a longing to know more. I began to attend regular classes and dive deeper into my own journey of self discovery. I was introduced to a meditation teacher who would totally change the trajectory and purpose of my life through the imparting of their wisdom and transformative teachings. In September 2008 I began to take the first steps toward becoming a Yoga Teacher. Skip forwards 13 years and I have completed over 1000 hrs of teacher trainings including Trauma Informed Yoga for Embodiment and Social Impact, Advanced Yin Yoga Teacher Training, Yoga for Anxiety and Depression, Yoga Nidra for Mental Health plus Hyper-mobility on the mat. I have recently qualified as a 5 Element Qigong teacher and I am currently training in Applied Poly-vagal Theory for Therapeutic Yoga and very much looking forward to sharing these profound and life changing teachings this year. I am really excited to now be training in Chinese Medicine Food Therapy which will really compliment my Yoga and Qigong classes, Seasonal Workshops and Retreats. It will give me an extra set of skills and boost my passion for Chinese medicine and the Taoist principle of Food as Medicine. My teaching style incorporates a fusion of different traditions and philosophies, focusing on embodiment practices, Five Element Theory and the cycles of nature to bring us back to a place of wholeness and balance. I interweave knowledge of different traditions and modality trainings in yoga, qigong and mindfulness to offer a unique form of therapeutic, mindful somatic movement practice designed to empower an individual with accessible and sustainable skills and tools needed to embrace the journey back home towards autonomy and realising their own true potential. My passion is Yoga for Mental Health and creating an inclusive, non judgemental, safe space for for those looking to ease the stress and tensions of modern day living in the form of:

Spring Equinox Day Retreat: East Asian Calligraphy & Qigong - An Exploration of Form & Flow

I am very excited to announce this wonderful Full day Retreat collaboration with Matthew of Yōsetsu (養拙)

Through the meditative arts of East Asian calligraphy and Qigong, you are invited to attune to the living flow of life though stillness and movement as an expression of creative energy.
How the day will flow:
Our morning will open with an introduction to East Asian Calligraphy - lead by Matthew and Laurie. The Calligraphy practice will offer a contemplative doorway into stillness and creative expression. Each brushstroke becomes an extension of the breath and a reflection of the present moment. Rather than striving for form, participants are invited to listen inwardly, allowing ink, paper, and hand to meet in spontaneous balance. In this way, calligraphy becomes a mirror of inner cultivation.
Matthew will lead the introduction to Chinese and Japanese brush calligraphy including history, context and styles. We will then begin the practice of writing Chinese characters with a brush and ink as a form of meditative practice with guided pause, reflections and meditation lead by Laurie. As confidence with the flow and forms arises within, we will begin to explore creating our final pieces on special boards that can be taken home as a memento of the experience.
We will take a break for Lunch with Seasonal nourishment supporting the day’s rhythm. A light locally foraged spring green soup and local artisan sourdough will be shared in community.
Our afternoon will open with Laurie’s Five Element exploration through direct experience of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water as they manifest in the natural world and within us.
We will gather together to 'commune' with nature as we are guided towards experiencing the interconnectedness of all things. We will feel into the spirit and vibrancy of the woods at this mid point between Solstices, joining together to celebrate the fullest expression of Spring time
💚 Practices though the afternoon will Include:
💚Element Qigong practices for Seasonal alignment
💚Daoist Tree Meditation
💚Walking/standing meditations
💚Mindfulness in Nature Practices
💚Group Ramble/hike through the woods and
Deer Park
Time for Silent Reflection/journalling/discussion
The afternoon will close with herbal tea and cake which will be served as a gentle ritual of rest and gratitude, encouraging quiet reflection and integration of the day’s experiences.
The retreat will unfold at a gentle pace with time for rest, contemplation, and integration. By weaving together movement, stillness, creativity, and nourishment, the day invites participants to remember their connection to the natural cycles of spring and to carry this renewed awareness into everyday life.
This retreat is open to all, regardless of experience, and welcomes those seeking a day of inner listening, renewal, and embodied spiritual practice.
Investment £88 including lunch, refreshments afternoon tea and cake and your own artwork to take home.

Just thought It was time to drop in and say ‘Namaste’ after an unintentional FB break initiated by a busy start to the new year.

There are wonderful happenings at the studio with some really exciting external projects taking form too, which I look forward to sharing more details with you soon.

I have also been focusing on my own personal practice in order to show up and support others without becoming depleted.
The Fire Horse energy is already coming in strong and will continue to be a big influence for this powerful year of transformation. We need to ensure we adopt a healthy balance between movement and stillness over these coming months🔥 🐎

I’m not the most active content creator, finding in person interactions and connections most nourishing. However I do want to express my gratitude for those who choose to follow, engage, share and contribute to our online community.

You are seen and deeply valued 🙏

I wish you well and thank you for being here ❤️

🕉Mother Meera is an Avatar (incarnation of the divine mother in human form) who is here to bring down the Divine Light known as Paramatman.

🕉This light will assist humanity at a critical time here on Earth to aid our spiritual development and support our conscious evolution.

🕉Nothing can stop it and it will affect everything and everyone whether we are aware of it or not but we have to work too. It may not be easy but aspiration, intent and effort can be directed through the gift of free will and a deep hunger for change.

Mother Meera Questions and Answers:
Q: Will there be a real evolutionary leap for man coming out of this crisis?

MM: Humanity must work for that leap. You all must become conscious, must hunger to change, must desire this leap for it to happen. Aspiration and work are everything. My help is always given, my help and my Light.

Jai Shri Mata Meera ❤️🙏

What a beautiful year we have had as I look back at these moments and memories of another 12 months of joyful celebration of life, love and community connection with classes, Kirtans, workshops, day retreats and weekend residential immersions that have created such a positive impact on people's lives.

To share these experiences with such great souls is a true blessing and I honestly do still pinch myself after all these years.

2026 is already shaping up to be a transformative year as we continue to co-create a space of spiritual enquiry and deep connection in the spirit of peace and loving awareness.

I have lot's of exciting events and collaborations to announce over the coming weeks but for now it's still time for family and rest so I will sign off and wish everyone a very Happy New Year and see you back in the studio from Monday 5th Jan.

With love and gratitude to our community, teachers, collaborators and guests and of course my personal teachers who I bow to in humble reverence 💙

May the coming year give us all opportunity for remembering who we are, being in service to one an other and to cultivate deeper loving exchanges in the spirit of peace ☮️

Laurie 🙏

PS: ✨There's a little clue in one of these photos about a very special guest joining us later in the year ✨
