I’m totally in love with healing through embodiment.
I’m a Somatic focused EFT/Tapping practitioner, Yoga teacher, and Bodyworker.
My practice centres around accessing the innate healing wisdom held within the body, and the power of collective circles to heighten this.
I run the Women's Wisdom Pool, a co-creative consciousness practice, using embodied practices and focused enquiry to open up a space of open hearted witnessing and sharing.
I’ve been studying Native American earth wisdom since 2011, which helps me tap into the web of life and create safely held nurturing spaces.
I have a background in physical theatre and improvisation, but moved gradually into body based therapies in 2001.
My personal body journey started much earlier. My childhood was an interesting experience. Badly asthmatic and hospitalised on numerous occasions. Constantly getting the message from the adults around me that my body was something to be feared, or was just incapable. Yet having this innate knowing that that was not true. I started dance school age four, ballet and stage craft. I loved dancing, loved to move, to be in my body. Despite the adults, mainly doctors and teachers, telling me i couldn’t do physical things, i danced through my school years, swam regularly, began weight training age 16, and represented the school in trampolining. My body was something to be conquered, not feared. I went to art college age 18, and eventually to Brighton University where i studied visual and performance arts. Following this I did an MA and specialised in performance and media, which then led on to working in physical theatre.
After several years of working in small companies, travelling about in vans and lumping sets in and out of venues, I started to have problems with my back. Short story, it was discovered i had scoliosis, curvature of the spine, something that my body had worked hard to compensate for. I looked into yoga, and found the amazing Dr Robin Munroe at the Yoga Therapy Centre London. Yoga transformed me, i was taller..........seriously i ‘grew’ about an inch as my spine started to respond to the carefully crafted programme he put together. I also found the breathing practices to be immensely helpful with my asthma. I was sold, there was something so powerful, i had to know more. This was in my late twenties. Theatre work became less of a career, and I went into teaching. At the college where i worked i retrained as a Sports Massage Therapist. And so began an absolute fascination and desire to study study study the body/mind/spirit.
Since that time I have trained in several modalities of massage, including Cranio-sacral therapy and Thai Massage. I did an apprenticeship in Personal Training with Les Mills in New Zealand, and worked in the health and fitness industry for several years. I couldn’t believe what my body was capable of. I also worked hard to get off my asthma medication using yogic breathing and Buteyko. Eventually ‘settling down’ and becoming a full time Yoga teacher and bodywork therapist by about 2006, specialising in backs and breathing!
My body’s capability has continued to astound me all these years. In 2010 i had my first child at the age of 38, and then went on to have two more! I’m now 49, with three young children and an ever increasing love of all that the body, mind and Spirit have to teach us, and the healing that lies within. I am passionate about bringing this to as many people as i can, to empower and enrich their lives. I have worked for Derby Mind, Leonard Cheshire disAbility, and had hundreds of clients with a range of conditions of the body and the mind.
