Today we celebrated the 81st anniversary of VE Day with a fantastic street party 🇬🇧

We tucked into prawn salad, hand-battered fish and chips, followed by a very special (and very big!) Victoria sponge for dessert. The afternoon was filled with laughter, community spirit, and plenty of singing along to the old wartime songs 🎶

It was especially lovely to hear some of the residents reminiscing about the VE Day street parties they enjoyed when they were younger, sharing their memories and stories from such an important time in history ❤️

A wonderful day bringing everyone together to celebrate and remember 🌟

We had a book club this afternoon, which was ‘off to the hairdressers, the history of the hairdresser and barber’ 💈 💇🏻‍♀️✂️
There was lots of interesting information, and we enjoyed chatting over a cuppa about our hairstyles from the past weather it be the quiff or the beehive, surprisingly nobody had dared a blue rinse!!

It’s all hands on deck as we prepare for our VE Day street party that’s being held on Friday 🇬🇧 some of our ladies have been getting crafty making their own red, white and blue fascinators and some of our gents have been helping make some fabulous paper chain decorations 😍

Happy Cinco de Mayo day!! 🇲🇽🌯🌵
We’ve had a wonderful fun day with lots of maraca shaking, cactus toss, whilst wearing our moustaches and sombreros!! We tried out the hat dance too!! We was treated to a wonderful dinner with nachos to start, enchiladas or a five bean chilli then to finish churros with chocolate sauce 😋

There’s something truly special about coming together in the kitchen 💛
Recently, our kitchen assistant, Lilly, has been encouraging residents to come into the kitchen and get involved – and what a difference it’s making! Our wonderful residents have been helping prepare tea, from making sandwiches, peeling and chopping vegetables to lending a hand with the washing up.
These everyday moments are about so much more than just food. Getting involved in simple kitchen tasks helps maintain independence, builds confidence, and gives a real sense of purpose 😊
It’s amazing to see how these shared activities create a warm, homely atmosphere where everyone feels valued and included.

We took Happy Hour up to our rooftop garden this afternoon to soak up the glorious sunshine ☀️🍻😎
Residents enjoyed a refreshing drink along with a healthy dose of vitamin D — the perfect combination for a feel-good afternoon!

We enjoyed a fantastic team quiz this morning! We split the room down the middle into blue and red teams, and it was a close one—well done to the red team who came out on top with 41 points, while the blue team scored a brilliant 37 👏
Quizzes like these are more than just fun—they help to stimulate memory and cognitive function, encourage social interaction, boost mood, and create a wonderful sense of teamwork and achievement. Most importantly, they bring lots of smiles and laughter to everyone involved 💙❤️

Today we held our monthly church service ⛪️
With the lovely Patience, Angie and David. We sang some lovely hymns and the reading was about how even when times are tough God is still there cheering us on like in the Bible story when David defeated the giant Goliath with just a single stone, then we decorated our own rocks.

We had a splendid trip out today with some of our gentlemen to the great British car museum, a big thank you to Belper Community Transport for getting us there and home safely 🚐
The gents (and ladies too) really enjoyed looking at all the classic cars, Jim especially as he was a car sales man back in the day so he knew his stuff! It got us all thinking about our first cars over a nice cuppa when we was finished too
