Dignity Action Day

Yesterday we gathered with our residents over a comforting cup of tea and a slice of cake, creating the perfect setting for an open, heartfelt discussion about what dignity truly means to them. Their reflections were thoughtful, personal, and deeply moving a reminder of why honouring dignity sits at the heart of everything we do.

🌊✨ All Aboard the Captain’s Table! ✨🌊

Today we finally set sail on our much‑anticipated Captain’s Table, a special part of our virtual cruise that had to be postponed, but was well worth the wait.

Residents enjoyed a delicious trio of dishes inspired by France, Italy, and Portugal, bringing a taste of Europe right to Rush Court. They were joined by our very own Captain Nike, who certainly looked the part and added plenty of charm to the occasion.

A burst of creativity in today’s therapy session!
We explored the world of landscapes , from dramatic stormy skies to garden gates, colourful rainbows and so much more. The residents threw themselves into the activity, letting their imaginations flow freely and bringing beautiful scenes to life on paper.

It was wonderful to see confidence grow, stories unfold, and creativity shine.

We enjoyed a wonderful morning yesterday at our Pre‑Lunch Social, made even more special by a visit from the Mayor of Wallingford. She spent time chatting with the residents about her role, the traditions behind it, and the fascinating history.

She kindly brought along her cloak, chain and ceremonial hat for everyone to see up close, a real treat for our residents. Helen, our brilliant Social Events Coordinator, even had the chance to model it and she looked every bit the part!

A heartfelt thank you to the Mayor for joining us and making the morning so memorable.

Every month we host our Resident Food Forum, a dedicated space where they can share their thoughts, preferences, and ideas about the meals and dining experience. These meetings are incredibly important, resident feedback helps shape our menus, influences future choices, and helps us make sure every mealtime feels enjoyable, comforting, and personal.

To make the forum engaging and fun, we always introduce a theme. It turns the meeting into more than just a discussion; it becomes a shared experience. Today’s theme was cheese tasting, giving residents the chance to sample a variety of flavours and textures from cranberry Wensleydale to garlic yarg.
Turns out that black sticks blue and garlic yarg were the favourites.

A truly lovely one‑to‑one moment of connection with one of our residents, she used to love playing the piano especially classical. So now that our piano has been retuned, what better excuse to try it out together. Watching her let her fingers find their way back to the keys was a beautiful reminder of how music can awaken joy, confidence, and precious memories.

🌊 Day Three of Our Virtual Cruise
We eased into the morning with some gentle seated exercises out on the “deck,” soaking up the sea breeze vibes before virtually sailing into beautiful Italy. 🇮🇹

The afternoon was full of joy and energy as we joined Fiona Harrison for a wonderful singalong, travelling the globe through music and lifting everyone’s spirits. 🎶🌍

🌊 Day 2 of Our Virtual Cruise.

This morning we “stepped off the ship” and straight onto a sunny beach. With the sound of gentle waves playing and a beautiful shoreline on the TV, everyone relaxed into the holiday spirit. We chatted about what we’d pack in our suitcases and all the essentials we’d take on a real getaway — from sunhats to souvenirs.

In the afternoon, we explored the rich culture, vibrant traditions, and fascinating history.of portugal. A wonderful mix of sunshine, storytelling, and shared memories.

🌊 Bon Voyage — Day One of Our Virtual Cruise 🛳️

Day one of our three day virtual cruise, This morning we “set sail” from Southampton, with residents collecting their boarding passes and enjoying a warm cup of tea as we launched into our adventure. We watched the Queen Mary depart the iconic port, setting the perfect scene for our journey. Whilst we were sailing to France we learnt some fun facts and had a quiz on cruise ships and Southampton. We also had a go at naming destinations with the letters of the alphabet.

🇲🇫Bonjour from France.
By the afternoon we had “arrived” in beautiful France. We discovered famous landmarks, enjoyed a video tour of top French destinations, and wrapped up the day with a lively trivia and picture quiz — plus a little bit of French language learning to get us in the spirit.

What a fantastic start to our journey! 🌍✨

🌊✨ We’ve been hard at work crafting some picturesque seaview portholes as we get ready to set sail on our three‑ day virtual cruise next week.

We’ll be “departing” from Southampton Dock, then journeying through the charm of France, the sunshine of Portugal, and the flavours of Italy, all before rounding off our voyage with a special Captain’s Table Supper.

A wonderful way to welcome the New Year with adventure, creativity, and a touch of imagination. Bon voyage! 🚢💙
