For all those athletes out there, or performers, speakers, test takers, time to break out the tennis ball. Squeezing a ball for 15 seconds with your Left hand (for Right handers) can improve accuracy and reduce the chance of choking under pressure. Fascinating neuroscience behind this, check out the link to the post below.

From elite athletes to students preparing to take an exam, people sometimes become overwhelmed by the pressure and this affects their ability to access their performance ability. Researchers reveal techniques to help prevent choking under pressure.

I have always wanted to work in the town I live in. Following the first lockdown I was blessed with the opportunity to join the oldest chiropractic clinic in the UK. Immediately I was welcomed into this tight knit community of caring and skilled practitioners. Thank you for embracing me as one of your own and I look forward to years of continued service with you all.

The medium in which we read makes a big difference on our brain, comprehension of the material, and can impact our imagination. Ease and convenience of the screen, which can increase access, doesn't necessarily make it better on our brains and development.

Constantly consuming negative media can have serious detrimental effects on our health. 😫

Although it might be tempting to stay up-to-date with the latest news and events, it's important to be conscious of what we consume, how often, and how it affects our mental wellbeing. 🧠

There are several studies that reveal the detrimental effects of prolonged consumption of negative information. There are also concerns about the effects of social media on health, especially in young adults and teenagers. 😓

In this week's blog post, we give you our top tips for filtering negative input, and explain why it's a good idea to pay more attention to the content you consume!

To communicate, control, and function well our brain needs to have a baseline of arousal or stimulation. A vast majority of this comes from our neck, spine and antigravity/postural muscles. This is why maintaining movement of our spinal joints and strength/stability of our core and postural muscles is so important. Our brain doesn’t function as well without them.

If you unplug the laptop it still works but the battery drains. Our body is much the same, weak core and lack of movement still lets us be alive but we will lack the energy supply in the system to work optimally.

We utilise different strategies for our balance. We use our ankles first. When we start to lose stability (which can be from injury/reduction in mobility/age or neurological related changes to name a few) we switch to a hip strategy. This is less stable so we widen our stance and reduce our arm swing while walking. If this fails we start using our trunk, which is even less stable. Checking your balance baseline periodically and then working to improve it significantly reduces chances of falls, non-contact related sports injuries, and helps maintain mobility.
