Did you know that social isolation affects the mental health of approximately 33% of elderly people in the UK?

This Mental Health Awareness Week we are proud to be able to support our local elderly residents, their families and carers by providing a social space, friendship and support to help combat this growing problem.

This week we have been honouring those who fought and sacrificed to bring World War II to an end.

One of our clients brought in medals which brought lots of discussion and memories.

Our crafters used their fine motor skills to make some lovely decorations for the centre.

On VE Day we remember and give thanks.

Our transport service is much more than transporting our clients to the centre and home safely.

It’s an opportunity for clients to visit areas and memories that have been forgotten for years. It’s the chance to chat to staff, as well as peace of mind for family members and carers.

Our cars are wheelchair accessible and branded with our logo so you won’t miss us out and about.

With thanks to County Councillor Georgina Hill and Berwick Town Council who gave grants towards the purchase costs.

Last Thursday was the turn of Moving and Handling. An essential skill to protect our clients and staff from injury, and to ensure our clients are transferred comfortably and safely.

Whether it's assistance with showering in the complex needs disabled bathroom, or a soothing manicure, our staff are on hand and happy to help keep our ladies and gentlemen looking their best. We also have a hair stylist who joins us every two weeks!

We hope that by offering this support in house it also relieves a small pressure on our clients' families and carers.

This week we were delighted to take delivery of our new Tiny Tablet which was purchased with some of the grant funding we received from the National Lottery in 2025.

The Tiny Tablet is an interactive touchscreen which is loaded with many different programmes and apps which are designed to:

- Assist memory recall
- Improve wellbeing
- Reduce anxiety
- Support coordination, balance, mobility and cognitive function
- Boost emotional health

We have had a trial run today and so far the feedback has been great.
