I am writing a quick post on Karma Yoga, or yoga of action. It’s something I’ve experienced and something I strive to achieve every day.
Very early on in my career as a primary school teacher, I was shown an act of kindness that I will never forget. I was newly qualified, had two young children, my husband was away, and I had to balance childcare, full-time teaching, and parents' evenings, all at once. It was a very stressful time; I had too much on my plate.
A parent of one of the children I taught left a meal for me and my family on my doorstep. I didn’t ask for their help and I didn’t expect their help, but it meant so much to me. This act of kindness has stayed with me ever since.
Each day, I ask myself, 'How can I serve others?' Whether it is a smile, a helping hand, or a quiet moment listening. Each kindness that is performed without expectation, without seeking reward or recognition, becomes a sacred act: Karma Yoga.
Recently, I helped a client, and they thanked me with this beautiful plant (and a cheeky box of chocs!). A small gesture or act can make a big impact on someone.
So remember, Karma Yoga invites us to act with love, without attachment to outcome - offering our time, energy, and kindness simply because it’s needed.
