Last week I received the amazing news I have now gained Accreditation with the BACP and I can now call myself a BACP (Accred) Counsellor.
What this means as an Accredited Counsellor:
Accreditation is not automatic it involves a lot of work and submission of clinical material for evaluation. The BACP accreditation process is a rigorous assessment, involving completing over 450 hours of client work (over 1000 client hours in my case, covering all types of mental health issues, addiction, ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, eating disorder, trauma, complex-trauma, PTSD, CPTSD, grief, complex grief, bereavment, children, young people, adults), evidence of how my therapeutic work meets recognised standards, reflective thinking, management of confidentiality, boundaries and risk and ethical decision making in complex situations.
Accreditation is helpful in understanding how a practioner works and that they are working professionally to high standards within an ethical framework.
