Good foot hygiene - this means washing your feet with soap, and not just wetting them in the shower/bath. It is essential to prevent things like athlete's foot, and other skin infections from developing
Shoes harbour millions of different types of bacteria and fungi/yeast/moulds especially as they are worn without socks and most shoes don't go in the washing machine often or get cleaned. If you don't wear socks then they become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.
This is why wearing socks (which should be changed daily and hot washed) is essential in helping to prevent athlete's foot and fungal toenails.
I can always tell who washes their feet and who doesn't 😉........
Some people scrub them every day while others say letting water run over them in the shower is enough. So are you cleaning these important appendages enough?

Hello, and please let me introduce myself.
My name is Sarah Hepworth, I was born and bred in the town of Beverley and have lived in East Yorkshire all my life.
I am the owner of Footpairfect Podiatry in the village of Leven. You can find a bit more about me and what I do at www.footpairfectpodiatry.co.uk
I hold a BSc honours degree in Podiatric Medicine.
With over 19 years' of experience in providing safe, quality and pain-free foot care you're feet are in safe hands with me. I have worked mostly in private practice but have also spent some time working in the NHS with both diabetic and high risk patients. So I can say I have seen and treated 1000s of pairs of feet of all shapes and sizes over the years. I take great pride in my work and in helping people have healthier feet that are pain free and also look great too.
So.... if you don't know this, Podiatrists (and Chiropodists) are the only foot and lower limb practitioners or foot specialists who are regulated in the UK, where feet are concerned by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) What this means is accountability and a guarantee of a genuine qualification that can be proven.
I am also recognised by many health insurers too
This ensures all my foot treatments are safe and suitable for every single person I see and treat
I am a member of the Royal College of Podiatrists who I am insured with
You can find me listed on the NHS register of fully qualified practitioners who offer safe foot care.
So if you have feet in need of just some tlc from a quick tidy up before a holiday or perhaps have more complex problems, then give me a call.
I can help with the following:
✅️Correct nail trimming - avoiding (and treating) ingrowing nails or painful nails that tend to curve at the sides (involuted)
✅️Corns/calluses/heel fissures/dry skin/rashes and other annoying skin problems
✅️Thick-unsightly nails - fungal or damaged plus treatment options for fungal nails including the Lacuna Method
✅️ Verruca treatments
✅️ Heel/ball of foot/arch pain diagnosis and treatment
I can also supply/sell to my patients and administer a variety of medicaments which are prescription only or POMs to help treat common foot problems
I also refer to other health professionals ie write to your GP requesting tests or treatments
For enquiries call/text etc on 07540071016
Thank you, Sarah

POLITE NOTICE
I always do my best to offer appointments without a long waiting time
Unfortunately due to the ongoing non-attendance for appointments often booked several weeks ahead a minority simply don't attend and give me no notice or apology for this. I am now regrettably going to ask for full payment for all missed appointments from now on, UNLESS this is due to a genuine reason or at least I am informed of the reason for someone not attending.
Sadly a minority of people simply do not turn up for their appointment and then also for whatever reason then choose to ignore me when I attempt to contact them to politely inform them they've missed their appointment.
Thank you
Sarah

Why see a qualified foot specialist, a Podiatrist?
Foot problems of all sorts are very common, most people hate feet, but they're important and need looking after, especially as we age and more so if you've got medical conditions that do impact on the feet, or can do if things are missed or not treated correctly.
I see lots of feet, from simple problems like not being able to reach toes that seem a long way down to more complex conditions that absolutely require a lot of in-depth medical knowledge not just about the foot but the whole body in order to reach a diagnosis. Without this knowledge things can be incorrectly diagnosed or missed
One example: a patient comes to see me and I perform a check of their pulses in the foot, this tells me a lot. However, sometimes I hear an arrhythmia. This is where the heartbeat doesn't sound quite as it should, I have been trained to be able to assess this. I then perform, with consent a simple ECG via a little device using the fingers, which accurately detects some common problems, and I have picked up an undiagnosed atrial fibrillation on several occasions on someone who is totally unaware, neither has their GP because they don't routinely check pules like I do. This, if not treated can put someone at risk of stroke or a heart attack, so it's pretty important that this is then fully checked out.
Because I'm medically trained I also know what questions to ask when I see someone with a foot condition, often they're simple to diagnose, but sometimes not so I ask questions that have nothing to do with the foot at all, but then like pieces of a jigsaw a picture starts to form and I can then come to a likely diagnosis, or refer to another person (usually the GP) for tests.
Experience alone treating feet does not always give the skill to do this, that is why I spent 4 years studying Podiatric Medicine.
Sometimes I'll see a patient has been misdiagnosed by a GP/nurse/pharmacist, they have very limited knowledge of the foot, it's not their job or speciality
Let's face it, you wouldn't ask these health professionals to check your teeth and give you advice or know if you needed a filling or root canal?
My job is to diagnose and treat lower limb conditions and refer on for the things I'm not a specialist in
So for your feet I'm your person 😏

Polite reminder to all my lovely patients
I'm super busy for the next two weeks, this is due to my annual summer holiday approaching. Therefore, can I please request that anyone who knows that they cannot attend an appointment gives me a minimum of 3 days notice (longer is ideal) to change/cancel, especially if you know you can't attend.
In the case of illness or genuine emergency, I know this cannot be helped, so in these circumstances I understand.
Regrettably, and more recently I'm getting a number of 'no shows' with no reason, plus cancellations on the day, sometimes 10 minutes before an appointment for reasons other than illness, which is unfair and also prevents me offering the appointment to someone else. I often have someone who may have been waiting for an appointment who I could've offered this to. It also costs me money.
Please try and let me know if you can't attend as I always do my very best to offer the best service I can and offer appointments within 1-2 weeks max.
Thank you for understanding
Sarah 🥰

My journey to become a Podiatrist began in 2004. I was out of work, following a bad accident that forced me to change my career path of over 25 years of working with horses. I ended up being offered a job, in very unusual circumstances, I often still think this was “meant to be” in a local chiropody practice in Driffield. My role was that of secretary/receptionist/cleaner and all other manner of tasks, including being responsible for cleaning and sterilising all the chiropody equipment. I became interested in what my boss was doing, and she invited me to observe her treating some of the patients who were willing to let me watch. As a small child a really bad experience with a chiropodist when I had a verruca, had really put me off. However, I began to realise it wasn’t the awful profession I had made my mind up it was. So one day when she asked me what I thought to what she was doing, I answered, it wasn’t what I had expected it to be at all. Then she casually suggested I might think about training so I could work alongside her. I didn’t need to think about this for long. I was hooked. This led to me enroling on the Foot Health Professional course with the SMAE Institute.
I qualified in 2005 and began my journey working both part time in this practice, still fulfiling the role of receptionist. As my work increased I gave up the role of receptionist to focus on treating patients. I quickly gained a lot of hands on experience and my skills and k owledge grew working alongside the chiropodist.
In 2013 I decided that I needed to upskill further. This led to me calling the Huddersfield University, where I was accepted onto the Podiatric Medicine degree course. This meant four years of study part time around family committments and my current job working in the Chiropody practice. It was going to be hard work, but hopefully worthwhile. The degree course opened my eyes and gave me so much more than I ever expected to learn.
In 2017 I finally graduated, gaining a Batchelor of Science Honours degree with first class honours in podiatry. I was an actual Podiatrist at last!
In November of 2017 I started my own clinic in the village of Leven, within the Finishing Touches hair salon. I also did some part time locum podiatry work for the Hull and East Riding Podiatry service, which gave me some further experience of working within the NHS podiatry team.
What is fantastic about being a podiatrist is being able to help people of all ages and walks of life to achieve healthier and more comfortable feet, and advising them how to look after them. This often makes a huge difference to many of my patients I treat. When someone comes to see me, having had painful feet, and leaves me pain free and happy, it means so much to me. I meet some truly inspiring people, with so many tales to tell of thier lives and experiences.
Our feet are often the least favourite part of our bodies, however, they work incredibly hard. Without them we couldn’t walk, run or enjoy an active life. Keeping them healthy, along with the rest of our body is vital to enable us to lead long and active lives to the full and not be in pain. Feet often get the least amount of thought, however, if they are painful or sore, it can lead to misery, inability to enjoy exercise and lead to a decline in health. Not being able to reach them, which often happens as we get older or have other problems can be a real problem, so having someone like myself to take care of basic care is vital for many people.
So I can honestly say, finding podiatry was a step in the right direction for me.
