Happy New Year to my friends and family, thank you to all those who have supported me through whats been one of the toughest years of my life. A huge shout out must go to Care for the Carers, who quite frankly if it wasn’t for my support worker I would not be here today. 2025 you’ve been a bastard and need to do one, and I hope 2026 is going to be brighter, better and happier, more importantly allow me to find me again.
My parting statement, show kindness as you never know whats happening behind closed doors and whats battles and demons somebody may be facing. But most importantly of all hug your loved ones, tell them how much they mean to you and make as many memories as you possibly can, for you never know when those moments and people can be taken cruely away from you, and not always physically but emotionally and mentally. 💚💚

I’ll be back, bigger and better ……….. stay tuned !!!

We are pleased to share that all our Wellbeing Centres across East Sussex are now Open Access, which means anyone can drop in and speak to a member of our team, without a referral or appointment.

This change is part of our commitment to being responsive to the needs of our communities. During our recent service redesign, we listened closely to people with lived experience and those already using our services. A clear message emerged: people wanted support that’s easier to reach and available when it’s needed most.

Our new Open Access approach makes that possible. It offers a welcoming space for anyone wanting to find out more about local wellbeing support, explore our groups and activities, or simply talk to someone about how they’re feeling.

We also want to recognise and thank the dedicated teams across our Wellbeing Centres, who have worked incredibly hard to make this model operational and continue to provide high-quality, compassionate support to those who need it. Their commitment ensures that our services remain truly open, inclusive, and centred around the people we support.

Today we mark World Su***de Prevention Day by standing by this year's theme of changing the narrative around su***de. The International Association for Su***de Prevention says that an estimated 720,000-plus su***des happen every year worldwide. This must change. We must ***de.

By inspiring individuals, communities, organisations & governments to engage in open & honest discussions about su***de and suicidal behaviour, we can start breaking down the stigma & barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding & support.

The Baton of Hope UK's purpose is to bring change & hope to the world, because no one deserves to die by su***de. You can support us by...

Yesterday, the Government announced a new Bill concerning Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment (PIP). At Southdown, we believe this proposed legislation will have damaging consequences for the people we support and for many others across our communities. We feel compelled to speak out.

Today, we’ve written to MPs across Sussex to share our concerns.

In our letter, we highlight that for many of the people we support, life is already complex. Support services are under pressure. Mental health needs are rising. People with learning disabilities still face significant barriers. And the housing crisis continues to threaten people’s ability to build stable, fulfilling lives.

We believe everyone has the right to access support that helps them feel safe, stay well, and live the life they choose. Universal Credit and PIP are not just benefits; they’re a lifeline that make this possible.

We know that with the right support, people can and do move into work, build confidence, and live more independently. But this progress is fragile. This Bill risks undermining the systems that people rely on; not just when out of work, but also when in low-paid or part-time roles, or during the transition into employment.

Undermining that support risks reversing hard-won gains and sends the wrong message about the value of inclusive employment and social contribution.

What you can do:
If you share our concern about the impact this Bill could have on disabled people, those with mental health challenges, and others in vulnerable situations, please consider writing to your MP.
