๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅณ Such a great time at the Winter Dressage Championships! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿพ

I was kept busy behind the scenes treating my clientsโ€™ horses โ€” helping them stay relaxed, supple, and preparing their muscles so they were ready to perform at their best. Itโ€™s always so rewarding to be part of their journey and see them go on to do so well in the arena. ๐Ÿ†

I enjoyed catching up with some familiar faces, and the standard of riding was incredible โ€” some seriously smart combinations out there โœจ

The Petplan Championship was also in full swing, and it was so lovely to see such a variety of horses all coming together to take part. What a brilliant atmosphere all round! ๐Ÿ’ซ

๐ŸŽ Can I see your horse move first? ๐ŸŽ

Before starting any massage, watching your horse move is so important. It shows things we canโ€™t always see when theyโ€™re standing still. Hereโ€™s what weโ€™re looking for:

๐Ÿค” Is one side working more than the other?

๐Ÿ‘ฃ Are their steps shorter than usual?

๐Ÿฉฐ How freely are their joints moving?

๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Are they shifting weight or avoiding something?

๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ How is their posture and balance?

By watching them move, we can see where thereโ€™s tension, whatโ€™s overworking, and whatโ€™s not being used enough. This helps us give a treatment thatโ€™s really suited to your horse.

Just a few minutes of movement can make a big difference ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’– Strong, balanced movement doesnโ€™t happen by accident ๐Ÿ’–

As an equine sports massage therapist, my job is to identify restrictions, support recovery and help horses stay comfortable in their work-whether thatโ€™s training, competing, or daily maintenance.

Massage can help:
๐ŸŽ€ improve range of motion
๐ŸŽ€ support muscle recovery
๐ŸŽ€ reduce compensation patterns
๐ŸŽ€ promote long-term soundness

Each session is tailored to the individual horse and their workload.

๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿคฉ How I can help as a massage therapist following veterinary treatments ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฉบ

๐ŸฉบVeterinary treatment addresses the underlying cause of an issue. However, once the primary problem has been resolved, the horseโ€™s body still needs support to recover from the compensatory patterns developed during pain or discomfort.

๐Ÿš‘When a horse is sore, it adapts its movement to protect the affected area. Over time, these compensations can lead to muscular tension, imbalance, and secondary discomfort elsewhere in the body.

๐Ÿช„ Equine massage plays a key role in releasing tension, restoring muscular balance, and encouraging correct movement patterns. This supports veterinary treatment and helps reduce the risk of ongoing or future issues.

In summary:
โ€ข Your vet treats the cause ๐Ÿฉบ
โ€ข Your equine massage therapist (me ๐Ÿค“) addresses the consequences ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
Together, we support long-term soundness and wellbeing. ๐Ÿช„

Two legends, one extraordinary legacy ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ–ค

We will cherish the wonderful memories these two horses gave us all. I was lucky enough not only to watch them in competition and at the London 2012 Olympic Games but also have cuddles with them at their home.

Thank you Carl, Charlotte and everyone involved with the success of these two superstars ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’ซ

โ„๏ธ Exercising horses in cold weather โ„๏ธ

โ„๏ธ As the temperatures are starting to drop you may notice some changes in your horses behaviour or way of going. Cooler muscles are less elastic making them more prone to injury.

โ„๏ธ Itโ€™s very important to make sure your horse is warmed up properly before you increase the intensity of the work, 10-20 minutes of walking and gentle trotting is perfect to warm the muscles. Recovery time may be longer due to reduced circulation so itโ€™s super important to make sure you cool down as well as you warmed up!

โ„๏ธUse exercise sheets as necessary to help those muscles warm up

โ„๏ธ Massage and stretching is also very effective at maintaining your horses suppleness
