Sonova has been experimenting with the direct-to-consumer hearing aid market for quite a while. They purchased Blamey Saunder a couple of years ago. and said at the time that I felt the purchase made sense for Sonova, not necessarily for any profitability but more for the institutional legacy and experience of the business. Blamey Saunder ran an interesting business model that was almost designed for the future. It provided a blended approach; you could buy hearing aids online but also access real-world, in-person support if you wished. Not surprisingly, the very model for the new Sennheiser products that will be available in the US. Let's talk All Day Clear and All Day Clear Slim.

It must be EUHA time again, every manufacturer is announcing the launch of new products. Phonak, not to be outdone has announced the launch of a new hearing aid platform they are calling Lumity. Rechargeable models only, I wonder how the buying public will react to that?

ReSound announced the launch of a new hearing aid platform they are calling Omnia on the 16th of August. The platform will initially be available in Receiver In Canal devices and the rollout will begin on the 25th of August in the US and Canada. Here is what we know.

It irritates me greatly when I hear that someone in my profession is taking the p**s out of consumers, it really irks me. A friend of mine wrote a cautionary tale on his website recently that drove it home that slightly shady practices are still a feature in some parts of our business. ReSound announces the launch of a new hearing aid model, a hearing aid that will hide in plain sight. Their new rechargeable custom hearing devices look very like wireless earbuds and fit well into that new and growing segment. It should be interesting to see how this segment pans out over the next few years and just how welcoming the marketplace will be.

I got a hold of a pair of Jabra Enhance Plus earphone hearing aids quite a while ago. Because of a series of events in my personal life they never got reviewed, which was a shame, because they aren't bad at all. So, I am finally fixing that.

Slim-RICs were first introduced by Signia with their Styletto model. The audiological world was divided, some liked it and some hated it. Obviously, Phonak considered the model type as a winner because they have just introduced their own type of Slim RIC for the Paradise platform. The design of the aid raises some technicalquestions, none of which were really covered in the press release, so it will be interesting to get the full run-down at the launch.

I remember many years ago when Made For iPhone hearing aids were first introduced by ReSound that there were people who felt it was a non-core technology change. That it didn't really matter and was only little more than a gimmick. I knew they were wrong, and in my usual shy and retired manner, I told them so. I believed that connectivity was another element that was core to assisting people with hearing loss live easier lives. Now, a hearing aid manufacturer has introduced a device that will grow into an integrated holistic health tool. Again, I have seen people involved in my profession bemoan the fact that it isn't core, and shouldn't we be helping people with just hearing better. Imagine a hearing aid that helps you hear better and assess your overall health.
