We ask a lot of our horses as part of there day to day lives- hacking, fun rides, schooling, dressage, jumping, eventing! So we need to make sure they are fit and strong enough for the job! 💪
It’s easy to build strength in for you horse but you have to follow a few key rules to be able to!
1. Make sure they are not in pain. You will not be able to build muscle if your horse is in pain, the nerves will tell the muscles to protect themselves and they won’t work properly! If your concerned your horse is in pain seek some professional advice.
2. Before you start a strengthening program make sure your tack fits correctly, diet is correct for the workload and shoeing is up to date!
3. Little and often. Start with muscle building exercise little and often, once the muscles are working correctly and efficiently you can increase the difficulty and reduce the frequency.
4. Start easy and increase difficulty. Start with easier exercises that you know how to do or do them in hand first. If you choose an exercise that’s too difficult and do to wrong you could cause an injury. So always start with something you find easy and increase the difficult as you get better at it!
