Waterloo Care

Waterloo Care Comfortable home for residents with varying levels of Dementia. Waterloo House has 19 bedrooms and Avon Lodge has 15 bedrooms, one of which is a double room.

Waterloo Care has two separate residential areas, Waterloo House and Avon Lodge; both of which have their own communal lounge and dining room. Although residents are able to choose where they spend their time, and are free to use any of the communal areas. There is currently a refurbishment programme for the bedrooms, all of them will be decorated in modern light colours. We have 3 wet rooms with showers and two bathrooms. Every bedroom has it's own private washing facilities and a toilet. There are no visiting times, we are open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We have a hairdresser who visits every week and residents can choose if they'd like to have their hair done. We're also visited regularly by a chiropodist. Every resident can be registered with our local GP surgery and our own Dr visits the home twice a week. We have a lot of entertainment in the home and have regular singers, dancers and exercise groups to the home. We sometimes have petting animals brought into the home and we've also had a puppet show, a wind group and various other forms of entertainment. Gentle Pilates, Big Smiles: A Soothing Session for Our Residents

What a calm and comfy afternoon we had! On 4th September, our residents enjoyed a relaxing class led by a trained Pilates teacher.
There were gentle stretches, soothing breathing, and plenty of smiles all round. πŸ’™

These sessions are especially helpful for residents living with dementia β€” they can ease anxiety, lift mood, support better sleep, and keep bodies moving in a safe, gentle way. The steady rhythm and guided breathing also bring a lovely sense of comfort and reassurance.

Huge thanks to our wonderful instructor for making it so peaceful and inclusive. We’re already looking forward to the next one! 🌿✨

A huge thank you to performer Raymond Giles, who did a splendid job and kept everyone entertained throughout.

πŸŽ“ Waterloo Care Staff Training Update

This week, we welcomed a Dietetic Practitioner from our local NHS Trust who delivered our first nutrition & hydration training session for the Waterloo Care Home team. It was brilliant and packed with practical learning that helped us support our residents even better. πŸ’™

What we covered:

β€’ πŸ₯£ Malnutrition – recognising the signs and taking early action
β€’ πŸ’§ Dehydration – spotting risks and keeping everyone well-hydrated
β€’ πŸ“ MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) – how and when we used it confidently
β€’ 🍽️ Diet in Diabetes – safer choices and smart swaps
β€’ 🌼 Nutrition & Hydration in Palliative Care – comfort-focused support
β€’ 🧈 Fortified Diets – simple ways we added calories and protein
β€’ πŸ’Š Supplements – where they supported malnutrition
β€’ 🍲 Texture-modified foods & πŸ₯€ thickened fluids – when and how we used them safely

We even rolled up our sleeves to make and taste a variety of fortified shakes πŸ₯€ β€” and they went down a treat!

A huge thank you to our NHS colleagues for sharing their expertise and to our wonderful staff for their enthusiasm and questions. This training strengthened our skills so we can continue to deliver personalised, safe and dignified care every day. 🌟

If you’d like to learn more about life at Waterloo Care Home or our approach to nutrition, send us a message β€” we’d love to chat. 😊
