What Inspired The Squiggle Society?
The Squiggle Society was born out of my own experiences as a parent and as a child psychotherapist. My path wasn’t a straight line—it was more of a squiggle, leading me from performing arts to Spain, then to financial services marketing, and finally to my true calling: child psychotherapy. This unconventional journey, combined with raising a neurodivergent child, gave me a unique understanding of the challenges faced by families like mine.
Realising the power of creativity in therapy, I began using art and play to help children express themselves. My daughter’s journey taught me not only about neurodiversity but also about the joys and struggles of daily life for families like ours. This ignited a passion in me to support other families navigating similar paths. As I advocated for my daughter, I also began to question my own neurotypicality.
The Squiggle Society is the culmination of my personal and professional experiences. It’s a safe space where families can connect, share their stories, and find support. I use my background in child psychotherapy and therapeutic art and play to empower families, providing them with creative tools and strategies to communicate effectively, build stronger bonds, and navigate the complexities of daily life.
Through my training and personal journey, I’ve learned the importance of self-love and kindness for parents, especially those raising neurodivergent children. I understand that caring for oneself is crucial for showing up fully for your family. That’s why The Squiggle Society is not just about supporting children; it’s about supporting the whole family unit.
In my free time, you might find me belting out show tunes (I’m a thespian at heart!), headbanging to nu metal, or trying to conquer chaos with smart systems. I’m a champion of both creativity and practicality, and I use my unconventional journey to make a real difference in the lives of families.
