Did you know there are 33 vertebrae in a human spine – remember 7,12, 5, 5, 4:

👌🏼7 in the neck
👌🏼12 in the mid-back
👌🏼5 in the low back
👌🏼5 in the sacrum (these are fused together to form one bone)
👌🏼4 in the coccyx (or tailbone) which are also fused vertebrae.

How they all fit together is how we are able to twist and bend our bodies in many different directions!

A muscle strain is when individual fibres of a muscle tear due to excessive load or stretch being placed on them during movement. Commonly strained muscles in the body include the hamstrings, calf muscles, as well as the muscles in the low back and shoulder. Strains range in severity from mild to severe, with longer recovery times expected for more severe strains.

The good news is, we can help you recover quick smart from a torn muscle. Comment below if you’ve strained a muscle in your lifetime👇🏼
What muscle did you strain?

Biceps means ‘two-heads’. There are two muscles in the human body that carry the name biceps and have two attachment points (rather than one) at one end of the muscle; the Biceps Brachii in the front of the upper arm, and the Biceps Femoris in the back of the thigh.
Makes the phrase “just going to work the biceps” a little more complicated now, doesn’t it?!

Did you know that the gibbons Therapy Osteopathic Clinic can help with your breathing? And THAT is important!

A healthy diaphragm helps maximise your oxygen intake, with minimal effort. When it’s not working quite as it should, then your body begins relying on all its secondary breathing muscles (especially those around the neck). This can cause imbalances and muscle tightness, leading to pain in the neck, shoulders and upper back. So, if you’re experiencing tightness in any of these areas, come and see us – we’ll get your breathing patterns sorted and have you breathing at max capacity again in no time.

And… exhale.

Plantar fasciopathy is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is a piece of thick tissue (similar to a tendon or ligament) that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes. The inflammation is commonly caused by repetitive strain injury to that thick tissue. Things like excessive walking or running, or inappropriate shoes are common causes.

Muscle fact: The SCM is a muscle that runs from the base of your skull, down the side of the neck and attaches to the chest and collar bones. It stands for:

- Sterno - sternum or chest bone
- Cleido - clavicle or collar bone
- Mastoid - a bony bump on the base of the skull

This muscle helps to bend the neck sideways and forwards as well as rotate the head. It is also the main muscle involved with the condition ‘torticollis’.

Now, let’s be honest – who knew this fact? 🙋 for yes, and 🙅 for no – comment below!

Humans have a total of 24 ribs, set out in 12 pairs. The ribs form a protective cage around our vital organs, including the heart, lungs and liver. The ribs are also an important part of our breathing. There are three main types of ribs:

• True ribs - these attach directly to the chest bone (aka sternum)
• False ribs - these attach indirectly to the chest bone via pieces of cartilage at the front of the rib cage
• Floating ribs - these literally ‘float’ at the back of our bodies and have no extension to the front.

And breathe…. Now who knew this fact already?
