We are a Fitness Centre and Injury Clinic based in Billingham in the north-east of England. We have a great community of members who want to become fitter and healthier no matter their age or profession. We treat all people, ranging from professional boxers to office workers, with a variety of aches and injuries. Stretching: what does the research actually say?

Stretching is often seen as essential — but the benefits depend on how and why you’re stretching.

🔹 Improves flexibility & joint range of motion
✔ Strong evidence supports stretching for increasing ROM, especially when done consistently.

🔹 Injury prevention?
⚠️ Research shows stretching alone does not significantly reduce injury risk. Load management, strength training, and recovery matter more.

🔹 Performance effects
🚫 Long static stretches before training can temporarily reduce strength and power.
✅ Dynamic stretching is more appropriate as part of a warm-up.

🔹 Pain & stiffness
✔ Stretching may help reduce the sensation of stiffness and improve movement confidence — especially when combined with strengthening.

Bottom line:
Stretching isn’t bad — but it’s not a magic fix. Use it strategically alongside strength, mobility, and massage to receive the full benefits.

💪🏽🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR MEMBERS AND PATIENTS🎉💪🏽

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your continued support throughout 2025.

We have seen our gym community go from strength to strength (pardon the pun 😂) and we are so thankful for the amazing atmosphere, friendliness and community-feel each and every one of you bring to our gym 💪🏽

Whether that’s a silly costume (you know who you are), lots of jokes and nattering (whilst working out of course😅) or even putting a hole in the floor (yes Martin- even you🤣) we are very thankful for the gym we have 💪🏽

As well as this, we have seen the Injury Clinic also continue to grow- with lots of new patients and returning patients every single week. It truly is a pleasure helping keep you fully fit, keeping you pain free and helping you remain active. I’m hugely thankful for each and every one of you 😊
