This week, Healthwatch West Sussex revealed how the voices of over 15,700 local people helped shape health and social care services across the county during 2024–25—including improvements in hospital transfers, community transport, and recovery care at home.

At the same time, West Sussex County Council is calling on the Government to exempt care providers—including homecare agencies—from rising National Insurance costs. Systemic pressures like rising wages and NI could threaten local care availability if left unaddressed

The Sussex Village Homecare Service was set up in April 2022 by Katy Clayton-Turner, who after several years in the care sector as both a private carer and working for agencies decided that the quality of care received through agencies was not always the standard of care she would expect if one of her family members was the client. With that in mind Katy went through the rigorous process of becoming a CQC registered company and started ‘The Sussex Village Homecare Service’.

Since 2022 The Sussex Village Homecare Service have looked after over 80 clients with varying needs. For some it is about rehabilitation after a fall, short term illness or hospital stay, it could be about maintaining independence in their own homes for as long as possible or providing respite care for clients whilst their family have a break. In other circumstances under our work with the NHS and local hospices we support clients to remain at home for their end-of-life care, as well as supporting the family through this challenging time.

The staff team has grown from 2 staff members to now a team of 10 staff incredibly passionate and highly skilled staff. The Sussex Village Homecare will always remain a small and person-centred care provider who puts the continuity of care for our clients as a top priority.

In November we received the news that ‘The Sussex Village Homecare Service’ was given an overall rating of GOOD following our CQC inspection.

We are extremely proud to have received such a positive report from the CQC at our first inspection and within the report is some lovely statements from clients, families, and professionals we have worked with over recent months.
