We’re so lucky to live in a time where support, guidance and connection can be found in so many ways - often right at our fingertips.

But as a mum, friend, and then a Solution Focused hypnotherapist, I also want to gently remind you that healing isn’t always found in big actions… sometimes it’s found in the smallest moments.

Smile – We’ve been back in the classroom! 😊

I’ve been teaching Module 8 of my 10-month diploma this weekend - and I couldn’t be prouder of the progress my students are making. Watching their confidence, knowledge, and passion for helping others grow is honestly one of the best parts of what I do.

And a huge shoutout to my partner in crime, Lydia, who always keeps me happy too - I’m so grateful for you! 💛

This week marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week so what a brilliant way to spend the weekend… surrounded by future therapists learning life-changing skills at exactly the right time.

Does hypnotherapy have a role to play in helping people with insomnia?

Sometimes insomnia relates to medical issues, shift work, or genuinely difficult life circumstances. Good hypnotherapists will always encourage you to consult your GP or appropriate healthcare professional first, especially if sleep problems are persistent or worsening.

Sleep difficulties are incredibly common, particularly during periods of stress, grief, anxiety, illness, hormonal change, or disrupted routine. And from a psychological point of view, that makes a lot of sense.

When our mind is busy negatively rehearsing the day we’ve just had, worrying about tomorrow, or scanning for possible problems, we can become stuck in a kind of ‘threat monitoring’ mode. In evolutionary terms, a brain that believes it needs to stay alert for danger is less likely to settle easily into sleep.

Sometimes better sleep starts not with fighting the mind, but with helping the mind and body feel a little safer, calmer, and more settled over time.

This is one area where hypnotherapy may be helpful for some people.

Approaches such as guided imagery, relaxation, focused attention, and even simple cognitive exercises can help redirect attention away from effortful sleep pursuit and repetitive worry, toward gentler, more neutral experiences. Some people describe this as giving the mind something safe and non urgent to focus on while sleep arrives in its own time.

For example, some people find simple mental exercises helpful before sleep, such as thinking of a word and then imagining objects beginning with each letter. Others prefer calming imagery, listening to music, breathing exercises, or guided relaxation. These approaches are not about ‘forcing’ sleep, but about reducing mental overactivity and helping our mind step away from constant problem solving.
