Back to school this week, and if you're like me your racking you brain for lunch ideas the kids will actually eat and enjoy. Trying to find the perfect balance between healthy and no waste lunches is next to impossible in my house. I am tried of food coming home each day after school. Everyone of my three kids have their different likes and dislikes. On top of that I swear their likes and dislikes change on me each year. Grrr......
It's so hard to keep up. This year I'm taking a different approach. This year I'm sitting the kids down and taking a survey. That's right! I need to break this lunch madness down to a science. Involving the kids in the lunch menu is a great way to hold them accountable when those carrot sticks come back home. If they said yes to the carrot they better eat the damn carrot!! Portions are also key when planning the perfect school time lunch. We need to only provide our kids with what they are capable of eating. No more... no less. If we allow more that 1 sweet treat in their lunches, chances are they won't be eating those carrot sticks they agreed too. And if you have that chatty kid that chooses to socializing over hunger. Well then that's a whole other ball game. The rule in my house is that if they want an after school snack then they must have eaten all there entire lunch. If not, their leftovers will be their snack.

They say children are a product of our environment. If we allow the junk they will pick the junk 9 times out of 10. Listen...I'm not saying no sugar (I dont want the kids packing up and moving out) I'm just saying everything in moderation. Education is also so very beneficial. Teaching our kids the pros and cons of food is important. For example if you have a child that is always fighting off some kind of cold or flu, we need to teach them about the effects sugar has on the immune system. What if your child is an inspiring athlete? You would maybe like to educate them on the importance of a balanced diet and the strengths you with receive from certain foods.
These ways of guiding your children are of course only suggestions. I know each child is unique and not every approach will be the right one for each of them. However if we are patient and persistant when it come to our kids nutritional needs we will all be sure to find our balance.

Hot Apple Cider Lemonade

With the Cold and Flu season upon us we are always looking for some relief. This delicious mix of health promoting ingredients will help do just that!

1 Tbsp of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Slice of Organic Lemon
1 tsp of Ceylon Cinnamon
5 Whole Cloves
500ml of Hot Filtered Water

Add all ingredients into a 500ml mason jar, add hot water. Let steep for 5 mins. Then Enjoy!

Did you know that apple cider vinegar relieves symptoms of acid reflux, reduces blood pressure, improves skin health, and health-promoting probiotics and enzymes?
Cloves are effective in developing and protecting the immune system, posses anti-inflammatory and pain-killing properties, and can reduce headaches.
Ceylon cinnamon has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, and can treat infections in the respiratory tract. Last but not least, Lemons!! Lemons are an amazing source of vitamin C. One lemon provides about 31 mg of vitamin C, which is 51% of the reference daily intake (RDI). Lemons may also aid weight loss and reduce your risk of heart disease, anemia, kidney stones, digestive issues, and cancer.
