Advanced Notice!

🌿 We’re pressing pause over Easter to practise what we preach 🌿

At FunctionAbility, we’re strong believers in the importance of work-life balance, and that includes our own team.

From 5pm on Friday 27th March, the whole company will be closed to allow our staff some well-deserved downtime.

đź“… What to expect:
Friday 27th April (5pm) - Tuesday 7th April (9am): FunctionAbility will be closed.

Tuesday 7th April (9am) – Monday 13th April (9am): Our Directors and Admin team will be back for admin-related enquiries only.

From Monday 13th April (9am): All Therapists and Therapy Assistants will return to work as normal.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while we take this time to recharge, so we can continue delivering the best possible support.

Thank you for your continued support ❤️

AI can share information.

But it can’t sit on the floor and notice the tiny shifts in posture.
It can’t feel the regulation in a room.
It can’t build trust with a child who’s had to mask all day.

Occupational therapy is human.
It’s relational.
It’s nuanced.

And no algorithm can replace that.

ADHD and autism aren’t a “trend.”

They’re lifelong neurodevelopmental differences that have always existed; we’re just finally recognising them.

More awareness doesn’t create more neurodivergent people.
It creates more understanding, earlier support, and fewer people struggling in silence.

Different isn’t fashionable. It’s neurological.

We're so delighted to have been nominated for a Pride of Bracknell Award. This means so much to the team, we cannot tell you. And just being nominated alone is such an honour and privilege.

It's so important to us to support and do a good job for all the people and families that we support. Thank you so much.

Every version of motherhood counts.

This Mother’s Day, you don’t have to match the “insta-perfect” version on your feed.

For some, it’s breakfast in bed.
For others, it’s co-regulating big emotions or managing sensory overload.

If your day looks different, that doesn’t make it less special, or less valid.

You are mothering the child in front of you. And that is enough.

Some mums carry so much… quietly.

Advocating.
Researching.
Explaining.
Holding it together.
Being the “strong one.”

But you don’t have to do it all without support.

Taking a break isn’t selfish.
Being exhausted doesn’t mean you’re failing.
And doing your best on the hard days still counts.

We see you!

This International Women's Day, we want the women who fight daily to know they are seen and we're here to support.

Every single one of you is a hero in our eyes.

World Book Day Reminder...

If your child can’t sit still for a story…That’s okay!

Some children need to move to listen. Wiggling, spinning, building, bouncing, it doesn’t mean they aren’t engaged. In fact, movement can help their brains focus and process language.

Listening doesn’t have to look like sitting cross-legged with hands in laps.

And sometimes, keeping them engaged means thinking a little differently:

When we match the story to the child, not the other way round, books become accessible, joyful and safe.

This World Book Day, let’s celebrate stories in all their forms… wiggly, noisy, playful and wonderfully unique.

It’s not just a job to us.

We really are passionate about what we do. From guiding you through paperwork to helping you get the answers you need, we are here for every step.

It’s a journey we find emotional and deeply rewarding. We celebrate the wins with you, hold space for the hard days, and never forget how much courage it takes to ask for support.

Because behind every referral, form and assessment is a family who just wants the very best for their child.

And that matters to us more than anything.

Nikki joined FunctionAbility in July 2024 as a Therapy Assistant, after a career as a primary school teacher and becoming a mum of three. With two neurodivergent children and EHCPs, she understands first-hand what it means to navigate the tribunal system and fight relentlessly for the right support.

When complex needs and school refusal required a more flexible path, Nikki stepped into our Administrator role, all while studying in the evenings for her SEND Law qualification and turning lived experience into meaningful change. That’s exactly who she is.

We’re so proud to have her on the team.
