Amanda has been experiencing left shoulder pain, especially during front and lateral raises. She described the discomfort as a sharp pain in the front of the shoulder, and initially suspected the deltoid.
🔎 During assessment, we noted:
• Pain and stiffness during flexion, abduction, and adduction
• Some discomfort during internal and external rotation
• Clear tightness in the anterior deltoid and pec major
• Minor muscular imbalance — the right shoulder appeared more developed than the left
💬 This can happen for a few reasons:
✔️ The right side is likely the dominant arm, so it naturally gets used more in training and day-to-day tasks
✔️ The left side may be compensating due to pain, leading to less muscle activation
✔️ Over time, this causes the right to become stronger and more muscular, while the left tightens and loses function
💆♀️ Treatment included:
✔️ Sports massage to deltoid, pec major, biceps, traps and rotator cuff.
✔️ IASTM (scraping) to break down tissue restrictions
✔️ Cupping therapy to release tension and improve circulation
Following the session, the client reported feeling less tension and better movement through the left shoulder.
🧠 Even small imbalances can cause ongoing issues if left untreated. If you’re feeling restricted, tight, or uneven, it’s worth getting it assessed properly.
