Copal Rope Incense or 'Vela Indiana' (Indian Candles) as they are known are made from natural rope dipped in a solution of Breu Branco resin (Protium heptaphyllum) a Brazilian copal. Breu Branco is burnt by various tribes such as the Yawanawa and this can be when there is sickness or negative energy to dispel and is highly effective for purification rituals or simply to bring a soothing, peaceful energy to any space or ceremony.

Aroma; Deep, earthy, rich, warm & a little spicy. When burnt this resin enriches, empowers and calms.

Copal Rope incense can be lit multiple times and makes an excellent smudge.

Back in Stock: Bobinsana (Calliandra angustifolia)

After a long absence we're pleased to have Bobinsana bark powder back on our shelves. This Amazonian tree is considered a plant teacher by the indigenous peoples that utilise it shamanically. It is commonly used for it's ability to open the heart and to assist with grief as well as for lucid dreaming. It has also been traditionally employed for rheumatism, colds, as a general energising tonic. It is often used with ayahuasca or as part of a dieta (a shamanic process of connecting with one plant spirit very well by consuming it frequently over a period whilst reducing or removing many other items from ones diet and lifestyle so that the spirit and nature of the plant becomes apparent)

Kuntanawa Tete Pawa Studios - New Rapè, Kuripe & Tepi

We have recently received a fantastic new delivery of Kuripe, Tepi & Kuntanawa Rapè.

Th Kuripe & Tepi are beautiful, handcrafted pieces from the artisans at Tete Pawa Studios, located in the Alto Juruá region of Marechal Thaumaturgo municipality near the Peruvian border, way up on the Amazon. The only way to get there is a two-day boat journey or with a four seater airplane!

Tete Pawã is the Harpy Eagle in the Pano indigenous language. It is the biggest bird of prey in the region and considered sacred to the native people.

The Tete Pawa studio always deliver state of the art handicrafts, as well as their excellent Kuntanawa Rapé; of which we have a few wonderful varieties back in stock.

Kuripe & Tepi are applicators for administering rapè (shamanic s***f). The kuripe is a V shaped pipe for administering to oneself and the Tepi is an elongated pipe for serving to another.

What is a hydrosol?

A hydrosol is a scented water obtained through the steam distillation process used to obtain essential oils. The water fraction contains water soluble compounds and trace amounts of essential oil. Hydrosols (or floral waters as they can be known) impart their aroma without smoke and have a lighter and more gentle effect. They are particularly ideal when incense smoke is inappropriate or when a lighter for gentle effect is preferred.

Our Palo Santo & Frankincense hydrosols have a fantastic aroma! They are perfect for brightening up a living space as well as for resetting or cleansing a space following activity or disturbance. Useful in ceremonial settings for clearing energies and focusing intent and the simply beauty of sensory experience.

Not to mention just for sprucing up a garment or yourself!

Packing ... A bitter green fairy?

Wormwood (Artemis absinthium) is a bitter herb in the Aster (Daisy) family. The genus from which Wormwood, Mugwort and other Artemisia species are named is derived from the greek goddess Artemis.

Wormwood has been used for stimulating the digestive system and for indigestion when there is a deficiency of gastric juices. It can be used for dispelling worms, from where it likely obtained its common name. It has also been an important gynaecological herb in European folk medicine. In Yemen today Wormwood is used to alleviate pains associated with parturition. It is considered a general tonic and useful in the treatment of many ailments.

The essential oil of Wormwood contains 'Thujone' a primary active component of the legendary drink Absinthe ( sometimes referred to as the Green Fairy) and responsible for some of its effects.

This drink was used by many artists and bohemians at the end of the 19th century and was popularised through the Parisian painters Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec & Edouard Manet. Van Gogh was addicted to it and the yellow tones in his pictures a good representation of the perceptual changes caused by Thujone. Pablo Picasso helped imortalise it. Absinthe was also a source of literary inspiration for writers such as HP Lovecraft, Oscar Wilde & Victor Hugu amongst others!

Absinthe is pretty much banned everywhere due to its toxic properties however the herb Wormwood has many beneficial uses.

Currently packing ….. Vitality, less grey hair & virility!

He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiform)

Chinese legend regarding Hu Shou Wu has it that Mr He, an older man around 60 regained his youthful vitality, black hair and ability to have children after taking He Shou Wu (Translated means Mr He has black hair). According to legend he lived to 130 years old.

Well, I am not sure about how much of the legend is exaggeration but if you’re 40+ and feeling a like you’ve used up your go go juice on a chronic level perhaps this herb is worth looking into.
