🌼 Bringing Colour to Heathfield!

Phil, James, and Keith recently enjoyed a trip to the local garden centre—on a mission to pick out flowers to brighten up their outdoor space at home.

This outing was inspired by a shared request from the gentlemen at Heathfield, who wanted to make their garden more colourful and welcoming for the summer months. 🌸🌿

💪 With support from staff, the group chose their favourite plants and took the lead in improving a space that’s important to them.

Activities like this encourage independence, teamwork, and pride in their home—one flower at a time!

🧠 Raising Awareness Together at Heathfield

To mark PTSD Awareness Day, the gentlemen at Heathfield came together to create informative leaflets, helping to start important conversations about mental health.

Everyone took part—discussing symptoms, treatment options, and the vital role of self-care in recovery and wellbeing. 💬

🌟 By learning and sharing together, the group not only raised awareness within their service but also supported one another in understanding and compassion.

Empowering people to speak openly about mental health helps break down stigma and encourages others to seek support. Well done to everyone involved!

🎳 Strikes, Strolls & Smiles in Wrexham!

Staff members Hannah and Yvette from Garfield recently supported Paul, David, and Peter on a fun-filled day trip to Wrexham—and what a fantastic day it was!

🎯 The group enjoyed a game of ten-pin bowling, followed by a walk through town and a well-earned lunch at Burger King. They ended the day with a visit to Wrexham Stadium, where everyone picked up a few souvenirs to remember the day.

🌟 For Peter, this was an especially meaningful experience—his first day trip out since moving to Garfield in February. It marked a big step in settling into his new home and building positive memories with his peers.

These kinds of personalised, community-based activities help boost confidence, independence, and social connection. A big thank you to staff for making it happen!

🙏 Supporting What Matters Most

Every Sunday morning, Maurice attends mass at St Laurence’s Church in the village—a meaningful routine that brings him comfort, joy, and a strong sense of connection.

With the support of staff, Maurice gets dressed in his best suit and heads out for a peaceful morning that’s truly important to him. He often shares stories from the service with his mum and enjoys watching church masses from around the world on YouTube.

💬 “He’s always in my office on a Monday, full of smiles, telling me all about it.”

A huge thank you to the team for supporting Maurice in doing something that holds such personal value.

Moments like these show the power of choice, routine, and respectful support in everyday life.

💚 Celebrating Learning Disability Week at Middleton!

To mark Learning Disability Week, everyone at Middleton came together to spread kindness and raise awareness. We created thoughtful gift bags filled with goodies like tea, coffee, biscuits, and pens—each one including a “myth vs. reality” fact to help challenge common misconceptions about learning disabilities.

👏 Maurice, who visits Café JJs every Tuesday, asked to take some bags to the hardworking staff there. Meanwhile, John and Mary proudly delivered bags to local residents, including pub regulars and even the community window cleaner!

🌟 This year’s theme, “Do You See Me?”, inspired us to create profile posters for the people we support—displayed proudly alongside staff profiles to celebrate individuality and promote visibility within our service.

This simple act of kindness has sparked conversation, raised awareness, and strengthened community connections—exactly what Learning Disability Week is all about.

🌞 Making the most of the sunshine at Middleton!

John, Abbey, and Joanna recently enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the local farm, where they had the chance to connect with nature and enjoy some hands-on experiences.

🐑 Abbey, a true animal lover, was thrilled to feed the baby lambs, while John especially enjoyed seeing the smaller farm animals up close. The visit offered a fantastic sensory experience, promoting wellbeing and social connection.

🍦 The day was topped off with a treat at the café—ice cream and juice all round! Staff shared how special it was to see such big smiles and joy throughout the day.

Meaningful moments like these create lasting memories and help build confidence, connection, and happiness. 💚

Masterchef in the Making! 👨🍳🍴

Since getting a new kitchen at Middleton, it's become the heart of the home – and Maurice has truly taken to it! Last week, he planned a lunch menu and teamed up with staff member Claire to cook for everyone.

Maurice carefully lined up the potato waffles, placed the quiches, and poured the beans – all with great care and pride. He said he loved being in the kitchen and felt really proud seeing the final meal.

Next on the menu? Baking a cake! 🍰

Well done Maurice – we can’t wait to see what you whip up next! 👏

Tommy's Liverpool Adventure! 🏙️⚽

Tommy from Heath Lodge had a brilliant day out in Liverpool with staff member Dean! Taking the train to Lime Street – just like he used to with his mum – Tommy enjoyed the sunshine, did some shopping, and had lunch at Wetherspoons.

He topped it off by treating himself to a brand new LFC hat and scarf – proper fan style! 🔴👏
He couldn’t wait to share his day with staff and his brother, and he’s already planning his next trip!

🎢 AWU Day Out to Drayton Manor! 🦁

On Thursday 25th June, some of the people we support at AWU enjoyed a fun-filled day at Drayton Manor Park and Zoo – all thanks to ringfenced funds set aside to treat our amazing clients!

From thrilling rides to animal encounters (plus some well-deserved refreshments!), everyone had a fantastic time and came home smiling. 😊

More outings are on the way as we use the remaining funds to support more of our PWS with days out of their choice…

Watch this space! 👀

✨ Polished to Perfection – WH Shines at Heath Lodge! ✨

We’re so proud of WH, one of our newer residents at Heath Lodge, who recently took on a task close to his heart – valeting our service car – and absolutely smashed it! 🚗💦

A former car valetor, WH gave the car a spotless inside-and-out clean with incredible attention to detail. It looked better than any professional job we’ve had before!

Even better, after completing the task, WH joined staff and peers for a celebratory meal — a big step for someone who’s been working on building confidence in social settings. 🙌

The next day? He was back asking to polish the alloy wheels. That’s dedication!

What might seem like a small task to some was a huge milestone for WH — and we’re all cheering him on. 🎉
Well done WH, and thank you to our brilliant team for the person-centred support that makes moments like this happen!

🚓 A Surprise Visit from PC Yeatman! 👮♂️💙

On Wednesday, the people we support at AWU had a lovely surprise when ex-staff member Danny popped in for a visit — now proudly serving as PC Daniel Yeatman!

Everyone was thrilled to see a familiar face and hear all about his new role in the police force. Danny gave a tour of the police car and chatted with the people we support about what it's like being on the job.

It was a special moment filled with smiles, memories, and inspiration — thank you for stopping by, PC Yeatman! 👏

You Said, We Did! – A Stunning Ocean Makeover for LG at Heath Lodge

We’re absolutely thrilled to share a heartwarming transformation story straight from Heath Lodge – and it’s all about one of the fantastic people we support, LG.

LG lives in one of our annexes and has a deep passion for all things ocean and tropical fish. He takes incredible care of his fish tanks and loves browsing local charity shops for under-the-sea inspired treasures. His most recent and proudest find. A coral reef fruit bowl that now takes pride of place in his kitchen!

LG had often talked about wanting his annex decorated, and so the team put their thinking caps on. We sat down with LG and discussed how we could make his space work better for him. He was spending most of his time in the larger bedroom watching TV, so the idea was raised – what if we switched the layout, making the current lounge his new bedroom and transforming the larger space into a fresh, open lounge area?

The lounge had become overcrowded over time with many items LG had collected, so this change meant some big decisions had to be made. In a huge personal step forward, LG worked with the team to select items to let go of – something that hasn’t been easy for him in the past, and a real achievement we’re all proud of.
But here’s where the magic happened… ✨

With very short notice (sorry team – you know how I like things done... yesterday 😅), the entire staff pulled together brilliantly, spending hours carefully packing, sorting, and clearing the annex, ready for the decorators to work their magic . The annex was completely cleared in record time, thanks to the team’s energy, teamwork, and can-do attitude.
The annex is now beautifully decorated with calming blue walls and ocean-themed wall transfers, creating a relaxing, sea-inspired space that LG absolutely loves. His new lounge area is bright, open, and full of personality – a true reflection of him.

Since the transformation, there’s been a noticeable difference in how LG cares for and takes pride in his home, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome.
This whole experience is a perfect reminder of what happens when a dedicated team listens, acts, and works together to bring someone’s vision to life.

💬 “You said, we did.”😉
⭐ Massive thanks to LG for trusting the process, Wayne and the team for getting us motivated, and to our incredible team at Heath Lodge for once again striking gold. Mission completed – and it looks amazing! 💙🌊🐠
