Learning Through Fun at Apple Tree House – Tuck Shop Day 🍎🛒

At Apple Tree House, the young people enjoyed a weekly Tuck Shop activity, giving them a hands-on opportunity to learn money skills and financial awareness.

With staff support, each young person practiced exchanging money, recognising different coin values, and counting accurately. Roles included shop staff, shoppers, and a security guard, helping everyone understand the importance of paying for their items before leaving the shop.

The activity was interactive, fun, and memorable, and everyone enjoyed choosing and enjoying their tasty snacks and drinks.

This simple weekly activity supports independence, confidence, and practical life skills, while keeping learning enjoyable.

Spicy Adventures at Parkside Lodge🌶🍛

Alfie from Parkside Lodge is a true curry enthusiast, with vindaloo being his all-time favourite! Usually enjoying frozen curries from Iceland, Alfie decided it was time for a fresh, authentic curry from a local Indian restaurant.

Staff member Alice took on the challenge of trying Alfie’s fiery vindaloo, and the two shared lots of laughs over the heat and flavours. Alfie had a wonderful meal out, enjoying the social experience and the spicy food he loves so much.

He’s already planning to go back for his birthday, showing how small outings like this can create joyful memories, independence, and engagement with the community.

A Fresh Look at Paxton House 🧡

At Paxton House, Gareth, Chloe, and the rest of the house were delighted to get involved in repainting their living room!

While the main work was done by the painter, Gareth and Chloe had a go themselves, supervised and supported by staff. Being part of the process gave them a real sense of ownership and pride in their home.

The newly painted green living room is now enjoyed by everyone, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere for all who live at Paxton House. 🎨

This activity shows how involvement in home improvements can support engagement, pride, and wellbeing.

Purple Day & Wear a Hat Day at Walker Heights 💜🎩

At Walker Heights, we had a fantastic time supporting two important causes!

On Thursday, 26th March, we went purple for Epilepsy Awareness Day, showing solidarity with everyone affected by epilepsy.

Then on Friday, 27th March, we got creative with our favourite hats for Wear a Hat Day, supporting Brain Tumour Research.

These awareness days help raise the profile of important causes while giving everyone a chance to have fun, engage, and feel part of the community. A huge thank you to all staff and the people we support for making these days so memorable! 💜🎩

Exciting Visit at Paxton House 🧡

At Paxton House, we involve the people we support in every aspect of the service, including preparing for visitors and giving consent.

Recently, we were delighted to hear that Carol Toner, Potens Head of Service and Quality Development, wanted to visit Paxton House. In preparation, Carol sent a one-page profile for everyone to read and decide if they were happy for her to visit.

Acting Senior Support Worker Hannah spent time with Fiona, Andrew, Lydia, Brandon, Shamita, Gareth, Eva, and Chloe, exploring the profile and learning more about Carol. Fiona was especially impressed and excited to meet Carol in person. Gareth was ready to ask her about travelling in Spain, while Brandon was curious about Dr Who and George Michael!

All of the people we support gave their consent and were looking forward to the visit, demonstrating how involvement, preparation, and choice help them feel confident and engaged in the life of their home.

This visit highlights the importance of co-production, empowerment, and consultation, ensuring that everyone at Paxton House has a voice and feels part of their community.
