The process matters just as much as the outcome. Whether it’s healing, creating, or simply living day to day — how we get there shapes what we build, who we become, and how deeply it all resonates.

During a creative workshop using clay I attended last week, I couldn't create anything. I simply had no idea what to make and even then, I knew I would not be happy with my piece. So I did nothing.

I waited, hoping inspiration would come, but it didn't. So I held, squashed and moved the clay. I noticed how it felt in my hands, the temperature, texture, smell.… and my hands kept moving.

I realised I wanted to feel comfortable. I was surrounded by others who were all busy creating according to the instructions, but I just sat that there, observing and moving the clay until I found a position I could relax in. I remained still for a while and realised, that was my creation.

What is self-care?
It looks different for everyone and is your investment in yourself.
It’s more than massages and meditation — that’s self-soothing.
True self-care involves facing difficult challenges that improve your future.

This includes the exercise you tend to delay, sticking to your budget, establishing boundaries, and having tough conversations.

While it might not always feel comfortable in the moment, it’s about investing in what will benefit you later.

Too often, when we are unhappy inside, our emotions can be projected onto others. We may blame, snap, lash out, or withdraw from those around us, which can make things worse. However, by being curious and taking a moment to ask ourselves how we are feeling, we can uncover the cause.

Is the emotion temporary or long-lasting? What do I need right now? What has helped before? Who or what can help now? This will pass.
