Wow! It was three years ago today that I taught my last Clubbercise face-to-face pre-covid 😷 and two years ago since I celebrated teaching 50 classes online from my kitchen🎶!

What a whirlwind experience that was 🪩 oh how the world changed and continues to evolve now!💃🎉💪🏽

Since this time, I have studied to qualify in other areas of fitness and nutrition and I continue to build my knowledge and understanding to help my clients the best way I can.

⭐️Take 1️⃣ at a time

This is the final day of the FAB FEB-YOU-ARY hints, tips and motivations and it’s one of the most important!

Whatever you are trying to achieve, take it 1 at a time…whether that be 1 day, 1 week, 1 healthy meal, 1 walk, 1 exercise class or 1 habit.

The way to a healthy and happier life is to change 1 thing at a time so ensure you don’t got overwhelmed and take on too many changes in one go. Build that 1 habit and then try another one and so on…

Another important thing to consider is don’t berate or beat yourself up if something doesn’t always work as you want it to-you can always try again tomorrow.

⭐️Look at a food label

Now this one is ALL about education. Do you know if the foods and drinks you are buying are good for you from a calorie or nutrition perspective?

Understanding food and drink nutrition labels can be a minefield, especially when some optimise the information to ‘per serving’ or ‘per 100g’ or ‘per pack/box’.

The traffic light system introduced in 2014 helps to educate shoppers on a very basic level but it takes a keen eye to spot if a food is high in sugar, high in fats, high in salt etc…

As a qualified Nutritional Advisor (level 3), I can provide you with advice and guidance on the types of foods you should be eating to meet your particular goal, as well as calorie consumption, foods to avoid and what your basic ‘macros’ should be. If you want my help, send me a DM.

If you are planning on any exercise tomorrow (maybe like Clubbercise Birmingham with Claire 😉) I would urge you to get your kit ready the night before. Having it laid out is one less thing to sort before the activity and means you’re more likely to wear it and go!

⭐️Know it’s OK to say “no”

We can sometimes feel an incredible amount of guilt and pressure to say “yes” all the time. This can sometimes lead to a physical, mental and emotional drain.

If you are somebody that is always saying yes to please people or out of guilt, know that it is definitely OK to say “no” if you need to! Sometimes we all just need a break and a rest.

⭐️Wear it different

Now this is certainly something I need to do more! You get up for work, you need to do 1,001 things before you leave and you grab the clothes that are comfy, serviceable (and in my case, almost always black…and very similar!)

I encourage you to “wear it different” whether that be dressing something up with a colourful accessory or jewellery, wearing something that’s been languishing at the back of your wardrobe, putting on heels if you are always in flats or wearing something you’ve been saving for a day out. Wear it now!!👚👗👠👛👓👒

FAB FEB-YOU-ARY 🥰 Day 22:

⭐️What is your T.D.E.E?

If you have a health or fitness goal, then you ideally need to know what your T.D.E.E is and how many calories you need to be consuming compared to now.

T.D.E.E stands for “Total Daily Energy Expenditure” and is how many calories your body needs to function in one day, including fuelling your activity. It is made up of 4 components:

1️⃣BMR = “Basal ‘Metabolic Rate” and is the amount of calories your body requires simply to ‘survive’ if you lay in bed all day just breathing and supporting bodily functions.

2️⃣TEF = “Thermic Effect of Food” and is the amount of calories your body requires to fuel digestion.

3️⃣NEAT = “Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis” and is the amount of calories your body requires to fuel movement that isn’t planned exercise (moving, walking etc…). Go to day 15 to see more on this. NEAT is the one we can increase the most!

4️⃣EAT = “Exercise Activity Thermogenesis” and is the amount of calories your body requires to fuel planned exercise, such as going for a run, community fitness class or swim etc… EAT is one we can increase but the overall effect on your TDEE will be smaller compared to increasing your NEAT.

If you know your TDEE, you will have a good idea of how many calories you need to consume for maintenance, loss or gain.
