What’s the fascination with fascia 🤔
So just what is fascia and what does it do? Well fascia is our bodies connective tissue, covering muscles nerves and most of our internal structures and organs so let’s face it we have lots of fascia! In some cases this important connective tissue has a number of different roles such as providing structure, it also plays a vital role in protection and reducing friction and allowing muscles, organs and other structures to move freely.
The problem is that sometimes this amazing structure can become adhered and stuck, this the. Results in restrictions, reduced movement, and chronic pain. And because we have this connective tissue throughout our body, these adhesions can then cause pain and restrictions in other areas to.
The good news is that there are a number of things you can do yourself to help keep your fascia healthy, and prevent these fascia adhesions including:
• Move more - it’s not just about going to the gym or getting out for a run, both of which are great forms of exercise, but it’s also about how much we move generally over the course of the day and avoid long periods sitting.
• Stretch regularly - stretching is essential to good health it reduces the risk of inflammation and structural problems.
• Focus on posture - slumping over at a desk or a phone while walking or sat on the settee can cause fascia and muscles to tighten, and lead to fascia adhering and sticking where it shouldn’t, causing restrictions and chronic pain.
How can massage therapy help? Myofascial release is an effective treatment targeting tight fascia and areas where adhesions have occurred, helping to restore movement and range of motion, and importantly treating the cause of pain.
So if your noticing restricted movement, pain or even tightness in areas, get booked in to get that fascia moving again!
