Bacne (aka back acne) is one of those conditions a HUGE percentage of people experience in their lifetimes… but that no-one talks about 🤐

𝑫𝒊𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘?

✅ 1 in 2 people with facial acne have back and chest acne
✅ You CAN have just back acne without face acne
✅ Back and chest acne can often cause pain, inflammation, scarring & embarrassment

Can certain foods trigger acne? 👀💭👇

We’re asked this question a lot at Midland Skin - and what better time to talk about it than during AcneAwarenessMonth? 👨🏻‍⚕️👇

The relationship between the foods we eat and acne is complex and not fully understood. Whereby diet may have a role in helping to control acne, it’s fair to say that it is hardly ever possible to fully control acne with dietary changes alone 🚫

It is never a good idea to delay proper medical treatment for acne in the hope that changes in diet may clear the condition

Try to look at your whole eating pattern, and make changes for a sustained period of time rather than chopping and changing single ingredients 🥗🥪🍕

The key principles for eating well for acne are:

✅Ensure the total calorie intake does not exceed the daily requirements
✅Ensure that your calories come from a good balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats

In addition, try to:

✅Avoid sugary foods – these have a high glycemic index and may stimulate Insulin Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), androgens and acne.
✅Avoid processed carbohydrates as these also have a high glycemic index – such as white bread, white rice and white pasta
✅Incorporate dietary fibre, vegetables and legumes – as these have lower glycemic index
✅Avoid large quantities of dairy products – as dairy may aggravate acne in large quantities
✅Avoid large quantities of whey protein supplements
✅Avoid large quantities of saturated fats such as those found in red meats.
✅Choose foods that have higher levels of unsaturated fats such as those found in avocados, nuts and fish

As you can see, a diet for acne is not far different from what is considered to be a healthy balanced diet in general. Keep it simple and something you can adhere to ✔️
