Towering ice, sliding penguins and lots of curious little minds โ„๏ธ๐Ÿง

This was such a fab activity.

Little ones were filling pots with ice, sliding penguins and polar bears down the icebergs and exploring the freezing cold textures with their hands.

Some of our older littles worked out how to pick up the ice without touching it โ€” using spoons so carefully (very impressive!).

We watched, talked and wondered as the ice slowly melted over the session. Which penguins slid the fastest? Which ice cubes built the tallest towers?

The language at this station did not stop ๐Ÿ’›

This is what early literacy looks like โ€”
talking, exploring, questioning and discovering through play.

Come and explore story-led play with us, or save this for ideas at home ๐Ÿ’›

The Snail and the Whale ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‹

What a glorious little adventure this morning. The sun was shining and the room was full of busy little bodies exploring, playing and discovering.

We explored snails and their trails, fiery volcano lava, towering icebergs and slipping, sliding penguins โ€” bringing the story to life through play.

Some sat beautifully for the story, others played in our cave and listened from afar โ€” and thatโ€™s exactly how it should be ๐Ÿ’›

Because this is where early literacy begins.
Through language.
Through imagination.
Through shared stories and playful exploration.
I had the best morning playing alongside you all.

Days like today make me so happy โœจ
Thank you everyone who came to share the story with us.

One tray. Three different ways to play.

๐Ÿ‘ถ Babies explore the textures, feel the materials and watch the movement.
๐Ÿง’ Toddlers scoop, pour and fill bowls โ€“ building coordination and curiosity.
๐Ÿ‘ง Older children begin to problem solve, organise and develop fine motor skills โ€“ like rescuing Grandma from the wolfโ€™s tummy using tweezers.

These small moments of play build language, imagination and early learning skills without children even realising theyโ€™re learning.

Thatโ€™s the magic of story-inspired play at Read, Play, Create.

My biggest mistake?
Not starting this sooner.
For years I worked in education and saw children reach the later years of primary school struggling with reading. I saw the frustration, the loss of confidence and how difficult it can be to close that gap once itโ€™s widened.
What Iโ€™ve learnt is that the foundations of reading begin much earlier.
They begin with stories.
With language.
With curiosity.
With play.
Thatโ€™s why Read, Play, Create exists.
To help families build a love of stories from the very beginning ๐Ÿ’›
If youโ€™d like to come and experience story-led play with your little one, weโ€™d love to welcome you to a session.

After 15 years working in education, I saw how hard it can be when children reach later primary school without strong reading foundations.

But reading doesnโ€™t begin with decoding words on a page.

It begins much earlier โ€” through curiosity, conversation, play and shared stories.

These early experiences build the foundations that reading grows from.

This is the heart of what we nurture at Read, Play, Create ๐Ÿ’›

When books become part of everyday life, stories start appearing everywhere.
In play.
In imagination.
In quiet moments together.
Thatโ€™s where a love of reading begins ๐Ÿ’›

Digging through our oaty woodland floorโ€ฆ and discovering eyes, ears and teeth along the way ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿฆท

This activity was such fun to watch.

The littlest ones loved exploring the texture of the oats, running their hands through it and reacting with surprise whenever an ear or an eye appeared!

The older littles were busy digging, spotting, scooping and searching for all the different pieces. They began organising them, comparing sizes and even building little faces.

Simple play like this opens up so many opportunities for curiosity, problem solving and imagination.

Such a fun activity to explore together ๐Ÿ’›

Todayโ€™s Little Red Riding Hood adventure ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ“

What a beautiful morning. It may have been a quieter session, but the littles had such a wonderful time exploring the story together.
From chia slime to our oaty woodland floor, the whole room became part of the tale. Grandmaโ€™s house had plenty of visitors tooโ€ฆ playing peekaboo and even feeding the wolf poor Grandma! ๐Ÿ˜„

Moments like these are so special โ€” children stepping into a story, exploring it in their own way and letting their imaginations lead.

Thank you everyone for a lovely morning of stories, play and quality time with your little ones ๐Ÿ’›

Simple play. Big impact ๐Ÿ’›

This is how we started sensory play at home with Archie.

Nothing fancy. Just water, bowls, cups and spoons on the floor (with lots of towelsโ€ฆ although Iโ€™d definitely recommend a tuff tray now! ๐Ÿ˜…).

We began sensory play because Archie had a slight speech delay after being so poorly when he was little. The speech and language team suggested sensory activities to help build his language. He also had sensory sensitivities and wouldnโ€™t touch certain things at all.

So we started simple.
And honestly, it was one of the best things we ever did.

It helped build his language and confidence in finding his voice, but it also brought so much joy. It gave us something purposeful to do together โ€” especially on those days when youโ€™re at home with a little one and wondering how to play or what to do next.

And then, over time, I discovered how to bring it all together with books and stories ๐Ÿ“š

Thatโ€™s really where Read, Play, Create began.

A little tiger family appeared in our tiger rice tray ๐Ÿฏ

This little one gathered up all the tigers from around the room and carefully placed them together. They buried them, hid them, fed them and watched over them as they scooped, poured and filled the bowls around them.

Moments like this are so special to witness.

A simple tray becomes a whole world of stories when children are given the space to explore in their own way.

Creativity.
Imagination.
Exploration.
Freedom ๐Ÿ’›
