What can I tell my therapist?

Therapy is confidential. This means that whether online or face to face all sessions remain between (you) the Client and your Therapist.

Confidentiality is an agreement whereby information is protected from unauthorised persons.

Your Therapist has a duty of care towards you and will observe safeguarding rules and they will only break confidentiality to keep you safe if they think you may be in danger. Your Therapist will always discuss any concerns they may have before reporting to the relevant person(s)

You can tell them about intrusive thoughts; you may want to consider seeking a Therapist who specialises in this area. Most Therapist's can provide their specialist areas alongside their contact info or when you arrange an initial consultation. Just know, you won't shock or scare your Therapist away, we're trained to help you deal with the "heavy stuff"

You can tell them about substance use. Therapist are non-judgmental and want to support you with your goals in Therapy.

This week I encourage you to be intentional with your goals. It's easy to get caught up in that never ending to do list or those fitness and health goals you keep meaning to start.

However, these goals will be more achievable if you focus on them in bitesize amounts.

What are your top 3 (or less) priorities this week?

What is your 1 word intention for the week?

What would make this week great?

This week I challenged you to consciously alter your thinking and surround yourself with others who celebrate you for growing. Take some time this weekend to reflect on how that went..

It's also important to set personal boundaries and this won't always be easy to establish and communicate; others may have heightened feelings as a response. Remember, It is not your responsibility to manage the emotional responses of others to your boundaries.

Boundaries do not mean 'keep everyone out and isolate yourself'. It could mean;

♡you're more able to say no to someone-even if you fear their disappointment

♡You're not people pleasing others

♡You realise your opinion matters as much as the next person

♡You communicate what you want and need when relating to others

Boundaries help you to stop carrying what's not yours to carry. They keep you safe allowing you to check in and ground yourself as it can be extremely exhausting if we don't have healthy boundaries in place.

Trauma is a bit of a buzz word, often overused so much so that everything becomes traumatic; but what does trauma actually mean or relate to?

◇Trauma is the emotional shock that someone experiences following an event that involves actual or perceived threat to one’s physical or mental wellbeing.

â—‡Trauma can also occur in response to witnessing or hearing about a similarly terrible event involving someone else.

◇For the event to be traumatic the person’s response must involve intense fear, helplessness, or horror and must overwhelm the normal coping mechanisms.

The shock from experiencing a traumatic event can have a physiological as well as a psychological impact
Physiological meaning 'the body's physical mechanisms that respond when an injury takes place.'

Psychological meaning a mental response to an injury

Mental health awareness week 10th-16th May 2021

This week has highlighted mental health at what feels like a turning point following the last 12+ months and the importance of showing empathy and understanding to not only ourselves but towards each other.

Theres always been a stigma around mental health but it becomes less daunting the more we talk! You don't have to have had the same experience as someone but empathy is the first step in beginning to understand someone's actions, reactions and responses. To understand mental health is to understand the person 🙌🏾 being in lockdowns for the past year has allowed people to become more reflective and able to share personal and emotional parts of themselves. Various people have used gardening and the outdoors to take time for themselves. As lockdown eases and the world begins to open let's remember to check in with each other and keep talking all things mental health and wellbeing!
