➡️Pelvis under, pull in the abdominals, pull up, lift your kneecaps, shoulders down... Lots of cues to remember. And now move 🤦♀️ Having been a ballet teacher and dancer I get it - there's so much to work on.
💁♀️Social is great - I love watching all of the wonderful dance here.
However, as a specialist in movement what concerns me is the images showing dance injuries in the making, with huge approval, usually due to the status of the account. Often showing young people, who may not hurt now, but are setting themselves up for some real issues later in life 🤦♀️
As a remedial specialist I have seen what this does throughout the whole time range of the dancing body. And hopefully you will want to use your body intelligently and maximise what it can do for your whole life?
➡️So, how to maximise your potential in dance? - start by understanding how your body is designed to work. Simple.
Once you you know and can feel that, movement becomes a lot easier and you are not having to remember many different cues for one movement (which is a lot to handle and makes the joy of dance, well, less joyful). You may even start to notice that those little aches and pains go away too.
Change the narrative. Injury, discomfort and pain in dance is not an advanced skill & is not inevitable.
💌Come and join me tomorrow in my class, Tension Free Dancers in aid of the Dancers of Kyiv City Ballet. I stand for happy healthy dancers, and I cannot stand by and do nothing to help them. Having taken their passion to entertain audiences and lighten peoples lives, they find their own lives turned upside down.
Dance is transformative, so come and help yourself and help these dancers in the process…
Together we are a powerful voice 🌈💓💃
